As Motorhomers who don’t like to move once parked up. 

Has this site a lot of things to do nearby?

    hello

    My fav site I think. It is perfect for you, all hardstanding and an area where it's all tarmac. The town/village itself will take you an afternoon or so to get around even though its quite compact. Of course there is the abbey which is great to walk around.Lots of independent shops and cafes/restaurants, some which offer discounts to club members. Also a largish Co-op literally a few minutes walk from the site. There are also lots of walks, some strenuous, some low level around the river and along, again as long or as short as you like. details in the site office. You could walk to the new train station (30 minutes) and take the train to Edinburgh, or local transport to Jedburgh or Kelso, another abbey and shops.

    Yes, it has.

    The site is on the edge of town with the shops, cafes, Melrose Abbey, the Priory Gardens all within an easy stroll. There are walks along the Tweed and the newly opened station isn’t far. 

    I'd say this is an ideal site to stay at if you don’t want to move your MH.

    I'm sure Corners will be along soon and he’ll tell you more.

    It's the sort of small town which would hold my interest for a day or two, but no more. After that I would drive up to Edinburgh for concerts, theatre, history, architecture, botanic gardens, and culture. I thought the whole point of motorhomes was mobility to go places rather than sit in one place.

    Unlike the others this isn't a site that we would stay longer than 1 night. Tried it once and wouldn't bother going back again, lots of more interesting places to stay. Each to there own so why not have a look and see which group you fit in.

    I could not imagine staying here and not venturing further afield as the immediate area might keep me occupied for a two night stay - the town just for an afternoon

    well I thought the point of having a LV (motor home or caravan) is going to places and enjoying your self. There are caravans who tour and MH who stay on one site, I've never read any rules about what you're supposed to do with a LV. Isn't everyone entitled to use their outfit as they see fit.

    It's sad really, we've had the why don't you tour abroad, now it's down to you have to use your outfit this way and only this way?

    Sorry OP, going off topic. Enjoy Melrose. Forgot to mention the tennis club next door and the rugby stadium.

    Here are some of my photos from a stay at Melrose last year. The town has plenty to offer and there are some lovely walks along the Tweed. The Scottish National Trust has two interesting gardens and the Abbey ruins are worth exploring including Robert the Bruce's memorial stone, not far away is Sir Walter Scott's old home plus access to the train to Edinburgh. Melrose is one of the few Border towns that has thrived over recent years. smile
