Why can't they?
Hi All
We are just newbie's but have been using club facilities for over a year now, what really surprises us is that at all the sites we have visited NOT ONE has the facility to put air into your tyres before leaving the site.
Now I wrote in to the powers that be but just got the "We thank you for the suggestion "answer! Its just seems mad that everyone talks about safe towing and courses but no sites offer a facility whereby you could check your tyre pressures before leaving site just to ensure they are Ok!
We all have to go into garages to use these machines unless of course you have your own machine to do this for you, but what is stopping the club in investing in one or three of these and placing them on well used sites and even charge for them like 50p or a pound for x minutes just like garages do? but place them on exits to the club sites I'm sure loads of us would really appreciate that leap forward in services, Or something even more radical why not just purchase a high powered electric compressor which reception could manage and charge for when used?
So why don't we all get behind this post and place some mild pressure on those that spend our money on something a little extra for its members?
Can't wait to see the response to this post...lol
Happy Hols to all
P.s So Please don't lets go down the old H&S rules! are we not leaving the EU? and isn't there somewhere in garages a small little sign that you use these facilities at your own risk..lol and are we not responsible enough! as we pull these caravans and drive these motor-homes all over the country you know!

Ever since I started driving (a very long time ago) I have always had a pump of some kind in the boot of the car. (I even remember when cars were supplied with a pump as part of the tool kit!).
As for gauges, I never trust any other than my own, which these days is digital (and cheap).

Hi Vic
Yes lots of us carry the small garage in the car boot but that doesn't stop the club from investing a little cash into a machine which may even pay for itself in the long run?
Think of a club site somewhere like Black horse site and then think about how many members use that site? those pennies would soon add up! and the argument about as a member this should be free, well its not FREE when you use Esso or Shell or ASDA or Tesco etc is it?
We like you carry just about anything I could need in the 4 by 4 but we are talking about service here just like the old days..lol when we even had pump attendants to serve out petrol to us..lol

I think they should install fuel pumps as well and sell me half-price diesel.

I can imagine the queues, Gateway.
I don’t think it’s reasonable to expect the club to cater for every single need or eventuality and we have to take responsibility for some things ourselves.

Hi Dmiller
Seems your right behind this proposal then GREAT! but lets talk serious about how the club values our safety when we represent them out on the roads and lets see if we can all get this to happen, and then if we ask nicely who knows they may even grant you wish..lol

Screwfix £10.99. Tyre gauge and pump! Self help is the key, exercise will be beneficial as well! We have always carried one, folds up neatly. Good for airbeds, inflatable canoes etc......

Hi Tinwheeler
Are there not queues at your filling station to use these facility? and we haven't to date ever noticed everyone checking out at the same time? and besides what about the queues we cause on the roads..lol

Great idea, I do hope that this is part of Club site improvements. Tyre pressure is a very important part of towing.

We represent the club? Do you think the club really cares what happens out on the road? That’s a hoot, GW.
Think of the practicalities of such a facility. Ample space to get car and cvan in and for those waiting, instalation cost, maintenance cost, calibration cost, hassle for wardens when it doesn't work or people want change for the meter.
Good luck with that one

Hi Takethedogalong
Seems your a little behind the times there we use the electric pumps far easier! and as for exercise I do get to plug it in..lol

Hi Tinwheeler
At least we are trying to make a difference hey! negatively is so easy but getting out there and making a difference is a little harder seems to me this club is stuck in the dark ages and yet it still sets the rules we all have to follow i.e you can only place your van on a pitch one way? bit out dated that one isn't it? when you try other sites around the country they tend to let you position your van the best for the views? Nothing wrong in trying Tinwheeler that's what we say ! We were always taught nothing ventured nothing gained!

Hi Huskydog
Seems reading the post you must of got it a little wrong! no one said anything about the wardens doing anything? perhaps as we said you must have had a problem reading what was written, never mind

As I said, good luck with that.
NB. You can pitch your van two ways as long as you maintain the required distance as a fire break. I wonder if this site is one that lets you pitch to get the best view? Food for thought, eh?
I'm getting the feeling that this club may not be right for you, GW.

Good point, Husks, but I fear your humour has been missed by the OP.

Not so, you can go nose in or out, to take advantage of a view, as long as you still observe the 6 metre rule.
As to providing air......it is not only car tyres that need air occasionally, so do caravan ones. And air may be needed even when not on a site or at a service station.
For this reason, I would be very surprised if any sensible caravanner, or MHer, travels without their own device. In fact our car even came supplied with one,so now we have 2.
Anything that takes space away from the pitching area is a bad idea, as is spending money on something that IMO would be little used

GW, you mention H&S and leaving the EU. I’m going down that route regardless as there is always a H&S implication and leaving the EU will not change that. Don’t imagine the H&S laws will be changed or dropped simply because we go our own way.

Hi All
Who know's hey, anything is possible even leaving the EU(At long Last..lol) so who knows in years to come perhaps air pumps may be a thing of the past
As for your comments on pitching you mean to say we can pitch 2 ways? wow must try that out next time we use a club site thanks! for that advice as we said we are just newbies with little or no idea of caravaning..lol

That'll be my Yorkshire genes kicking in, existing gauge and pump around 30 years old, still works perfectly, so why buy a new one?
Seriously, there are far more urgent things for Club to spend cash on, so I am happy carrying my own. It helps if we are not close to a garage as well, and for sorting out the cycles!

Hi Takealong the dog
Can't say we like the effort required for the old ways much prefer the new electric pumps even down to leveling can't be bother with all those ramps and bits of wood time to run with the changes
As for club investing we think perhaps this idea would pay for itself and besides it shouldn't be up to just a few to make a decision on these matters needs to be up to all we think? just think of the numbers! that's the accountant in me again..lol

We have an elected council to make the decisions, GW. It’s them you need to lobby.
0 -
Hi Tinwheeler
Yes thank you again for that information! But surely to lobby someone/anyone isn't it first best to get the majority views of club members behind the idea first! and then lobby the elected council? that's how we thought this would go lets see who supports the idea first before we waste the time of the "elected Council" members

The old ways are better for health, we always considered lugging water and waste etc.... part of holiday exercise! Little things add up to big things.
If I was stuck behind a queue of vans/MHs all waiting to check tyre pressures, put in air etc..... I would be not nice to know. It's bad enough trying to get out of a site with early arrivals clogging up the gateways! I can just imagine the shuffling and shunting that would happen, as it does over some of the MH dump drains! DIY for me, failing that it happens at the nearest garage.

Hi Huskydog
In reply to your last comment! And miss out on all the fun ..lol and anyway what else have you got to do today? No we think up the revolution and forward! now your not getting worried are you huskydog? that other peoples views may be different from yours? surly not...lol

If you want the views of club members, this isn’t the place to do it as only a tiny proportion use this forum. See what DSB says about the way to do it. He'll be along sooner or later.
Kelly's already responded from staff but I doubt she’s considered how much space will be needed. I suggest you address that issue before you get carried away. I think your earlier response from the club was telling, tbh.

Great idea, Husky. Methinks we're being wound up here and maybe a tad insulted.
Personally, I think we should get Vlad and his car wash crew to set up on site. They could check tyre pressures at the same time as washing our vehicles.

Hi Tinwheeler
Again great advice but we thought that a forum is the exact place to raise any comments or issues like this? doesn't everyone use these forums to exchange views and opinions? some are good some are bad? some are just a waste of time but we can all read and take what we want from each forum otherwise how else do we exchange ideas and opinions? Who by the way is the DSB? and what is a DSB? is it the forum manager? as for space on the servers we are sure that this site can cope with that?if not I can always help them out?
And am already taking to our "Head Office personnel" regarding possibilities

I've got a question. If you need a Club Site to provide you with some means of checking tyre pressure before you head off home, what do you do before your journey to the site? Do you haul out the caravan and take it (unchecked, unsafe??) to a garage to check it? Or would a personal device enable you to do both journeys after carrying out safety checks before rolling a wheel? Which is the way we have done it for the last 30+ years.
