A sound policy.......it's a never ending source of wonder at what some folks will pinch from a Club Site. Two shower heads, the sort provided in the adapted showers disappeared at Yellowcraig one week we were there!

No Mi'Lud, not guilty. That was the last time we stayed on a big Club Site at busy holiday time! Warden decided to wait until things quietened down before replacing for third time! Bedlam.

I hope they can hang on to the bedding they supply then, plus of course the corkscrew.😉
I'll stick with my original opinion, "penny pinching"
Cottages we have stayed at vary. Some, usually the more expensive ones, provide everything. Others you take bedding and towels. Some give the option of paying extra. However, at over £800 for a week off peak, I would expect everything,

"The space allocated to some of these new developments isn't and never has been touring pitch space. So all the hoohah about reducing pitch choice is just that, a load of Luddite codswallop".
You are probably more familiar than I with the spare space available, say at Brighton which we do use, to fit in additionally their allocation of Airstreams, I assume with full facilities?
Where other than without losing the present caravan/motorhome or existing tent pitches do you envisage that being achieved?
I would have thought that to maximise income and ease lack of over demand capacity issues, if there were these spare desirable and legally suitable areas to do that, these would already have gained pitches?
If not and there is spare area it then begs the question why has it not already been done?
I am not against the concept, but if we have extra area then ourselves with the present pressures on availability at critical times we would rather it used as pitches than rentals. Once that critical issue is cured then is the time to seek addition incentives to fill the sites. I feel with Brighton curing lack of capacity at critical times is a way off.

This has been a good thread, mostly in favour of the modern thinking behind the CMC's plans for now and the future of the company. Well done the CMC
As usual there are a few who are unable to accept that the business has to modernise to remain successful, but that's no problem, as the few are entitled to their opinion on the forum, as well as the rest of us.

It is probably unlikely the CC could ever create sufficient pitches to satisfy weekend demand at peak times. Given this, surely getting £322 pounds for a service pitch with an airstream, has to be better than £74 without. It appears a sound marketing decision.

Having had a look at the new static units of all kinds, I doubt any are imposing upon usage very much. Brighton's two pods are on grass area, more than likely out of use in Winter anyway, so pods are a good way of utilising Winter space. The two pods at Abbey Wood are on a small part of existing tent area, so same applies, whilst the three glamping pods are on a separate grass area away from all other units. Friends who have used them tell me facilities at Coniston Park are separate from touring area, and indeed are not shown in Site Plan.

I have looked at Experience Freedom page and see that the folk who rent the Airstreams will have to pay a £50.00 deposit for making sure the cassette toilet is empty and clean before they leave.
CAMC will get the profit and could be club staff cleaning etc, would not be keen on that especially if the outside has to be cleaned as well could not be done in half hour slot!!

I'm certainly not against diversifiction, but I count see me wanting to actually by an airstream. Not only are they expensive, but I don't actually like the look of them. I would guess they are quite heavy to tow. I'll be looking out for reviews by those who stay in one on site. A yurt sounds more appealing. Hopefully they are a bit better than the C&CC 'static tent I had the opportunity to see a few weeks back.

I suspect the vast majority of those caravans you see on the road are not "touring" in the true sense but aiming at or returning from a specific booked pitch, and probably many of the motorhomes are to?
And many were doing just that 30 years ago! Most of their trips might have been weekend breaks to a single site. If somebody was working and had say 5 weeks annual leave they did not go touring from site to site often. We would. for example, go off to Scotland or elsewhere for 3 weeks. We might well book the three Saturdays during school hols and tour moving every few days. We used to book Aberaeron and stay for 9 days every summer making use of leave and unwinding using Cae Bach. So most of our site visits were booked as they would have been weekend stays of 3 or 4 nights. Many did the same. Mainly retired folk could afford the time to tour.
I was very fortunate in that from age 35 to age 54 was able to take 12 weeks leave although I worked longer hours to do so and was able to plan my own work. The last year I worked about 50 days in 9 months and 1.5 days in the last three months before retiring at nearly 55 and a half.

Just saying
Oh and the had on board spend of £163 included as well. and sufficient free internet access to pre book this years CAMC sites, one of which I'm on now.

You must let me in to your secret KS. I managed a last minute bargain on the Queen Victoria to the Baltic six years ago but even that was £64 per night without my mess bill.
