Bulkhead Gas Regulator

I recently spent a week away in my 2017 caravan. Upon arrival at the site,  I discovered I had no gas. After checking all relevant valves and taps, even tried to operate the refrigerator on gas, I contacted the dealer who I bought the van from. They advised it is most likely the regulator. I live 100+ miles from my dealer so they posted a regulator to me to fit myself. My dealer informed me that I can change the regulator myself, it's just 4 bolts/screws. My question is, Legally and in line with safety regs, can I fit the regulator myself or must it be done by a qualified Gas Engineer?

    You’re getting confused about gas regs concerning buildings and letting caravans. There are no regs regarding your own touring van. As long as you know what you’re doing, just do it.  The same goes for lekky.

    The question I would be asking is ‘how could it be the regulator?’ Either it’s malfunctioning or it’s full of crap from previous cylinders. Make sure you have a U bend in the gas tail that is lower than the regulator otherwise oils and sediment can enter the reg and prevent it from working. Certainly sounds like the regulator if the gas isn’t reaching the cooler etc.

    just make sure you have no leaks after you have done it. A squeezy bottle with soapy water is the answer, just spray around the joints if theirs a leak it will show bubbles

    Thank you Merve, I've read loads of advice regarding the regulator becoming blocked. I have the new regulator so will change myself. Might invest in a spare, should it happen again. I've read you can wash the gunk out of a blocked regulator. Might try that if it happens again to this replacement. I'll also check the position of the U bend.

    do you have the double auto regulator that switches over from one to the other. I think they have an off position so check that it is set pointing to the left or right. just a thought.
