Eurovision

Without wanting to promote a political debate, did last night's event not provide even more proof that everyone dislikes us???

I put fresh batteries in my hearing aids, bought nibbles and a few beverages and personally thought our entry was one of the better attempts from recent years.

Yet, even after a stellar performance by SuRie, AND a stage invasion - STILL our song was generally ignored.

What will happen after Brexit? Oh 'ecky thump!

Haven't watched Eurovision for years, I think the whole thing is a pretty awful representation of music from everyone in Europe. wink

Unfortunately it would appear that Brexit will be but a pale imitation of what we thought we would get.

I'm not a 'Eurovision addict' myself Brue, but there was a distinct improvement in the quality of the songs and much less 'cheese, soft porn and dancing Grannies' than normal! laughing

We watched the show and thought a lot of the acts were very good with a good selection of music. You can speculate as to why we didn't to we'll but at the end of the day there were at lease half a dozen acts that were far better than ours. 😂😂

We only watched the beginning and end last night as we wanted to see the last two episodes of Salamander, we are in the van so not so easy to record one and watch the other. We did manage to see the UK entry and though it quite good and typical of much of modern UK music. The trouble is that juries and the greater public don't seem to have the same appreciation. Had the Austrian  entry won I would have been quite happy as I thought that quite a good song, well performed. But, it seems that if you dress up in funny clothes it wins you more votes. I am of the view that if the likes of Adele or Ed Shearing performed a song that went on to sell millions of copies that it would not win Eurovision. There is too much partisan voting for the country and not the performance. Unfortunately if we pulled our support of the competition I think that would be just like walking away with our ball!!!

Or that some 'people' deliberately, and possible falsely, lead 'us' to believe. Reality may just be even paler than that we see before us now!

I couldn’t agree more mickysf, I clearly remember being told about an emergency budget within weeks of a leave vote, £15bn tax rises, £15bn spending cuts etc etc. We certainly were lied to weren’t we !!!
