There was a proposal a few years ago to fix in one place the 'Easter' school holiday or the break between terms, and then when Easter fell you would then have the Good Friday and Easter Monday off as well if it didn't fall in the fixed two weeks.
It was tried in a few LEAs but never repeated for some reason. Teachers liked it as it gave two equal half terms.

I agree with you Cornersteady to a certain extent but it depends on where you stay and how many of you there are. I have a share in a narrowboat and am interested in canals so booked 2 nights at a marina/caravan site on the Lancaster Canal which cost £46.00. For a family that is a very good price but there is only myself and my 2 dogs and although the site was very clean and tidy the facility block, whilst adequate, was VERY old. Last week I stayed for 2 nights at Leyburn and 2 nights at Wharfedale and it cost me £52.00 for 4 nights with far more modern facilities. As it is only myself I find the C&MHC is very reasonable. Your point about the site you mention is very valid though.

excellent, which area is that?

thanks, I like Leyburn very much, the site is very different in some ways to most others

Good idea, nothing like that up here. On the one occasion it happened the two weeks were off peak

David, there is a third way of course, and that is to do away with the pitch fee altogether and just charge per person. Obviously this would have to rise pro rata, however I can't see the CC doing that change as they would loose out with solo caravanners/M/H'ers.
Toby, there's no compulsion for you to use full facility high priced club site, There are many CLs/CS's and small commercial site that are much cheaper.

True, it could be another option although it's not one I have come across. I agree that it could have an impact on solo's but it would have a far greater impact when you get more than two adults in a party?

David, surely the number of additional adults is fairly limited, or perhaps the number would equal the number of solos, who knows? I think it could be a fairer way of charging for the additional electric, gas for heating water in the showers & extra water used by each extra individual.

Well I've just changed my site from Berwick Seaview to Middlesbourgh, this was just for 1 night, the night before we get the ferry from Hull.
I wanted to get about half way so Berwick is pretty much that, but it would appear that the mid week discount has gone for this site, price for 1 night beginning of May (not the holiday) £23, price at Middlesbourgh £17.30.
Guess we will just drive a bit further then, we do like Berwick but we also like Middlesbourgh so loss to us, in fact a benefit as we can go for a nice walk after our drive and get something to eat (maybe) in the establishment next door to the site. If I forget anything food wise I can nip round to Asda and buy it. Yes good decision all round to change sites

hope you don't have to go to Hartlepool again!

I don't see it as fairer Nellie. Each unit uses a similar pitch and also uses electric to heat regardless of occupant numbers.
I agree that there maybe a relationship between number of occupants and usage of facilities perhaps. The present system mirrors that IMO

All I was doing was to present another alternative to David's pricing suggestions, ET. I don't imagine that the CC would consider my idea, or David's for that matter, too stuck in their ways.wink

The fairest way is per person, when camping in a tent they usually charged per person plus a charge for a car if you have one, that campsite owner in "carry on camping" got it right, the only thing I resent is having to pay for the electric this should be by choice or better still metered.

Another pricing option which would mirror practice on some private and commercial sites would be to charge for dogs . On many of the sites we have been visiting lately the dog population exceeds the adult population. Commercial sites seem to charge around £3 per night per dog. If the club were to go down this route it could reduce pitch or adult fees considerably , install WiFi across the network or put hot tubs in all our sites

first why should the club mirror practice on other sites? Is that enough reason to change anything?
secondly it would only generate increased income for these significant price decreases if the same number of people with dogs still came to club sites and paid for their dogs, they might not. A lot of people come to club sites only because their dogs are free. If club sites were the same as others then why would they come to a club site? Maybe the club owes it good occupancy rates to those with dogs?
Also why charge per dog? Apart from the dog walk what do dogs use?
1 -
Shall we just say the club has said it has no plans to charge for dogs.
That being so, the discussion has nowhere to go. End of.

Policies change year on year and as the club seems to operate as a commercial entity these days why not generate additional income . Cornersteady suggests many dog owners only use the club sites as dogs are free. Seems like a good reason the think about charging It only levels the playing field and the club sites have other benefits over private and commercial sites such as unlimited electricity on higher ampage EHUs so it might be perceived as a golden goose waiting to have its eggs collected

Or perceived as killing the goose that laid the golden egg.

Why would the club want to level the playing field if it's ahead of the opposition in occupancy levels already. Agree with TW's statements.

if I seem to read your post right, you are saying that the club should give up a business advantage that brings in lots of dog owners (levels the playing fields) just because we have a number of others? Sort of playing fair to it's competitors? Why should any business give up a money earner?

I think Frabro is being quite clever here. He’s managed to get dogs, unmetered lekky, Wi-fi and costs in his posts. Only children and speeding are missing.
0 -
indeed, remind me again which non club sites have meters for electricity? How many do that? Maybe one or two out of?
maybe a fine for speeding children?

Not sure where he gets all these commercial sites charging for dogs from either, we have probably used an average of 3 non CAMC sites a year for the last 25 years and have never been charged for our dog on any of them.🤔
