interesting post, can't argue with being safer I would think?

Interesting point, Kj. I don't mean to be disrespectful, but surely you mean "well beyond" your choice of budget for UK Sites rather than simply beyond your budget, since the ferry crossing etc, even at discounted club rates would surely eat into your budget more quickly than a few days at BG? (Which, incidentally, I agree we would probably not choose to spend money on visiting!)

It suggests the pitches were not spaced as well as we've come to expect on club sites.

yes the pics on their web site did show them to be closer together? Yes I meant what the club considers to be safe. And yes I did mention the tow cars not being visible

I hope you’re not implying the club shouldn't have bought it because it was AO and suited a niche market, David.
As has been said, it’s quite likely it would have changed whoever bought it.

I think there are also seasonal pitches there. Maybe those who don't mind the change over from AO have opted to stay put. This year will be quite different as the system moves forward under new ownership.
I don't regard the club purchasing a site as a race to the bottom in standards and provision. The club are very good at providing a variety of sites for all.

well assume you are correct about the 'captive audience' (when will this forcing people to go to club sites ever end? ) I would say it will do even better as in that captive audience many have children and grandchildren, those extra bodies on site will generate extra extra income, a hundred extra children per week at £3+ , perhaps 200? Over all those peak school holidays?

race to the top perhaps?

Yes, trying to be brief, beyond what we set our site night price at for UK, which we prefer to be no more than £20 on average, which is difficult if using only Club sites these days. So many peak periods these days!
Ferry is about £120 return this year I think, in September, so we would not get many nights in September at the new site for that.
We do have a holiday budget and like to get good value and make it go as far as possible.
Overall, as we are usually away at least 2 months when we take a ferry, we find that when we add up ferry, insurance and site fees and compare with site fees in UK, the cost averages about the same per night.

perhaps now that all pitches (apart from the SPs) are to be non awning, how will caravanning families be able to take advantage as the No 1 prerequisite for those with kids, dogs etc has to be the siting of an awning....after all, isn't this what they're for?
so that's families out, except those in the SPs..
has the club shot itself in the foot ?
or will the club dig the lot up and relay slightly fewer awining pitches when they redesign the road layout?
or will all those loyal 'adult only' customers be cheering happily as the site effectively remains AO due to the boycotting of large family van/awning combos?
it will be interesting to see how it pans out....

interesting read and if taken at face value (and no reason to suggest otherwise) this site is certainly not the fantastic better-than-club site some have claimed it to be?
Some pitches are severely cramped, and could feel lacking in privacy... As Motorhome owners this site lacks proper, easy access for emptying wastewater... both toilet & showe facilities are, whilst adequate, there are nowhere near enough to support the number of visitors
If so the club will soon bring it up to standard

Yes, possible at some sites , we are using Garlieston in June, but as soon as the Scottish school holidays start, several CAMC sites in England go to peak prices, unlike CCC sites. And on them we also get the wrinkly discount.
We are using a mix this year, but far fewer CAMC sites (only 3 for a total of 8 nights, in a total of 8 weeks in UK) than previously, and a lot more CLs.
A lot does depend on the time of year, and it is getting very difficult to avoid the BHs and school holidays when planning a tour.

with unsafe fire practices thrown in for a little excitement?

I see. That’s an interesting take on things.

you can say that - I couldn't possibly comment

But maybe, just maybe (because there's no way any of us can know) there were other prospective buyers who decided it was a no go as an ongoing AO site. Whatever, the club have purchased it and, as we all know, the club prides itself on being all inclusive. There are alternatimes aplenty in the area for those who insist on AO provision.
