Club site or private
To the non believers who feel private sites are better , Google the club site in Cheddar ,then go into satalite images and have a look at the private site across the lane .On that day it didn't even come a close second.😁😁

I’m neither a believer nor a non-believer. Is it necessary to fall into one category or the other?
I use all types of sites depending on what suits best at the time.
Whatever you think the result was at Cheddar, I’ve no doubt there will be other examples showing the exact opposite so, really, there’s little point in trying to illustrate a divide. Sorry, Trellis, it serves no useful purpose.

Those two sites have over 200 reviews between them on UKCampsite.co.uk. That Club site gets a review score of 8 out of10 from 45 reviews but that independent site gets a score of 9 out 10 from 171 reviews. The punters have voted.

The obvious thing about consistency is that you know what you're getting, DD. Sometimes that can be an advantage but at other times the 'adventure' of the unexpected is welcome and often pleasantly surprises. If it disappoints, then we vote with our wheels in the same way as there are some club sites we hated and will never visit again.
It goes to prove that, at least for me, there is no hard and fast rule as to which sites to use.

You should try it. It’s great for finding sites of all types.
You might have your eyes opened to the big wide world outside of the club.

Have you ever been to Cheddar Club Site? The one and only time I’ve visited, I found it to be a featureless flat field with regimented parallel pitches brimming a tarmac loop. In other words... Characterless (but equally, quite convenient and as usual, clean)
Hardly a flagship example. The wife concluded it akin to a council car park with grass. Much more interesting sites in the network with lumps, bumps, glades and even a few trees.

I prefer the open aspect of the Cheddar site to the one next door which from memory is heavily wooded and the pitches a bit closer together.

Why a need for comparison other than to stir up yet another boring "debate". Surely people can make their own minds up as to which type of site to use. Can't some one come up with something new to talk about? This forum these days seems to have two camps, one for and one against anything club, most, cleverly disguised an "an opinion". Change the record folks
ukcampsite has always been a brilliant tool for researching sites, the reviews seem more informative as well.

We stayed on the club site because we weren't welcome at the private one seeing as it's adult only.
It looked OK to my mind and it was pretty full when we were next door. I'd probably choose the club site in future as I don't like adult only sites much

We visit the area quite a lot. Both sites are handy for walking into the village, but, IMHO, Cheddar village is just about the worst example of a commercial, money grabbing tourist hotspot anywhere in the South West. I'd much rather use the C&CC site at Priddy, just a short drive away unless I was really desperate to part with loads of cash!

Much prefer the top of the Mendips looking down rather than the tourist hotspot of Cheddar. The best way to see Cheddar Gorge is driving or walking down from the top, I got lost there once on the way to Bristol airport, don't ask, it was very foggy and quite creepy alone in the swirling mists.

We 'bought' passes with club card points. The kids went off on their own on foot and did the attractions over two days. We did our own thing and met up with them later. It was a perfect short holiday.
We looked at the C&CC site as well but it didn't offer the same opportunities for the youngsters and didn't appeal to me much. However the amount of choice in this area is impressive
