Hi guys hope people can help me, excitement 2016 new compass Rallye 574 retirement money all spent but we'll worth it for 6 months. Then!!! Alarm only going off when arming it, 1st service! damp at the front window and a 8hour round trip back to dealer, 2nd service damp at front window and both wheel arches. Why do all these big companies get away with charging £20.000 + and supplying substandard equipment.

Oneputt you are so right it needs lots of people to stop buying and started complaining about them, I am so annoyed they have said my van could be away 2 weeks. Compass/elldiss are a complete let down.

It's pretty common across all the brands, PP.

As One said, we keep buying so manufacturers see no reason to improve their standards and I’m afraid you’ll never convince people not to buy. I think it would help matters if people were more willing to use the court system. A series of judgements against dealers would help shake them up.

You've demonstrated a good reason for buying closer to home.

I agree entirely TW think I might go down the route advertising how bad it is.

Obviously ownership by Erwin Hymer GmbH isn't making much difference.

I was talking to the dealership and they said that Elldiss would phone to ask what they were doing to fix a complaint, Hymer has not even contacted them and seems they do not have a customer service.

I understand companies hate having their failings posted on Facebook.

Don't forget it's the dealer, not the manufacturer, who is responsible for rectifying matters.

    Good luck.

Got to be  honest TW Leeds caravans are really good doing repairs and warranty work, however it should be Elldiss they made the product very poorly, my other gripe is why should I lose my van for 2weeks for repair and use 3 tanks of diesel and my time. Can you tell I am really annoyed lol.

others with more 'legal' knowledge than I will confirm (or deny...) but I thought you would also be able to claim reasonable out of pocket expenses in persuing the rectification of faults?....

i agree, it's just not good enough....the worst thing is the poor back up for parts/spares even once you've got them to admit it's there fault..

this is what seems to take an eternity to get moving....and then the blame gets transferred back to some components manufacturer in Europe or China....

We did the same in 2015, purchased a new Compass Omega  482, found the rear panel started to crack and a few other niggles, fan on grill / oven stopped working, catches on cupboard doors, etc, etc, so reported them all and sent a photo of panel to dealer. Booked it in for it's first service with my list, dealer then found 30% damp around the Heki rooflight and the roof boards were stained. All sorted under warranty, new panel, Heki and roof boards were fitted and the other problems sorted; at second service last November everything was OK no problems or signs of damp. Yes, Leeds Caravan Centre does a good job and did a better job than Elddis. I am lucky my caravan storage is only 30mins drive away.

Bought a new Elldis Avante in 2009 which had damp repairs after four out of five services eventually with 90% resealed. Traded in 2014 to an Elldis dealer who said "SOLID" construction had stopped leak problems but obviously did not. They also sold Coachman caravans which I bought and up to now no problems of water ingress after three services. Then after reading others comments on CT maybe we were just lucky.

Under normal circumstances I would begin looking for a new caravan but now intend to keep what we have because I do not want another leaky new caravan.

    Penguinpete.

Your post above are very common to lots of other reports from caravan owners with UK built caravans. We have had Uk built vans for about 30 years, and have seen the build of our vans go worse with our last two vans, and the last van has but us off buying British ever again. So this year we have brought a new German built caravan with the door on the UK side and the layout that we like. Only time will tell if we have made the right move, but there was no way we wanted another van as bad as the last one.

I phoned the dealer today to see what Eldiss had said about the warranty work, they sent all the paper work back because they put x2 damp wheel archers in stead of x1 damp wheel arches on seperate lines. WOW how childish all this is getting and its only the start.

You`ve learn`t the first lesson of owning a caravan ALWAYS buy from your LOCAL dealer (provided its a dealer with a good reputation) even if its not your first choice van unless you are happy to make long journeys to have issues sorted out.  Might sound a little harsh but there is a certain amount of truth in this. Hope you get your problems sorted out.

That sounds like the behaviour of Carillion before they collapsed, and other large cowboy builders that went the same way.

Also like some large German companies that make things, got to keep people employed doing paperwork than improving product quality.

I trust you are in communication with the MD at Eldiss and are claiming travel costs to and from the dealers for each time you have to take the caravan through this whole episode. And at least one free service after the repairs are complete. That is what Swift gave us for the remedial works on our poorly thrown together heap of common poor quality parts masquerading as a caravan.

I have just left my 2 year old Compass Corona in for service & have been told that it is  measuring 18% damp in the floor.  The supplying dealer/service agent say this is on the high side of normal but will only be subject to re-inspection in 3 months time.  They say 20% + results in a warranty claim.

As Elddis claim that the van is sealed including laminate underfloor and therefore cannot leak what are my rights?  Can I reject the Van as " not as described" under the 10 year warranty?

Marquis are the local sales/servicing agent

I sense this is a common feeling.  Perhaps it has something to do with personal contact and speaking to a real person face to face.

    Reference 30/4, 20.22

Marquis are the local dealer (within 10 miles) & the purchase was  agreed at the Elddis open day.  I must point-out that Marquis gave me an excellent deal.
