The moral of the story is ' Don't buy a twin axle'
I wonder what percentage of vans stolen are twin axles in comparison to the percentage of twin axles produced.

I dont think the amount of axles makes much difference, look around certain sites and notice many twin axle continental vans but also many british made single axles.
Also being aware of this and other local thefts as peedee suggested I dont think ANY locks stop them. Just delays. As suggested if they want it they will take it, regardless of Locks/Alarms/Tracker. They are all just to satisfy Insurance IMHO.
The thefts PeeDee refers too all had Alko Locks and extra devices in place, this one had 2 alko and 2 nemesis ultra plus hitch and Alarm/Tracker

We had a window stolen (yes, just the window) from our caravan while it was parked on our drive, probably to replace a damaged window on the thief's 'van.

Sorry to read that C&C, it is amazing what some will pinch! Since my original report the van has not been recovered and probably never will be. To my knowledge at least two more vans have since been stolen in this area. So anyone living in the Beds, Bucks and Herts area, keep a closer eye on your vans if you can..

In most other countries the caravan is a separately registered vehicle with it's own registration number and registration documents. I never understood why it's not the same here.

C&C, I wonder if they'd taken the window out to access the van so as to steal all that was inside and that they were disturbed, taking the window with them as it had their finger prints on it.....just a theory!

Hi just had my Abbey gts broken into and they stole the front seats a nightmare trying to find mateial to match trying to source second hand or find an upholstery to make new one's heartless people

Broomfield farm has 30 + seasonal pitches .
I have had a seasonal pitch on site for the previous 10 years ....
No barrier,,.no gates closed no problem... until Monday night
3 caravans stolen in one night.
Will the caravan club install an electronic barrier now?

The answer is no,too much cost for them
Probably shut the wooden farm gate at night with a B&Q Cheap Lock.

How come the wardens didn't hear the vans being taken off site during the night? Were they pulled out by silent vehicles?

There were two seasonal c/vans stolen from as Broomfield a one couple site in the Cotswolds a few years back,
the method, first a "member"had been on site for a few days,and had, un noticed by anyone, prepared the said c/vans by removing security devices,and on the time of theft had let the other vehicles on site and at night let them out with c/vans ,and as for wardens hearing them?they do not make any noise as they are very "professional "

So a security barrier would not be a hindrance to the pros, unless of course the barrier is de-activated during a set time period, eg from 11:00 at night till 6:00 in the morning.
