I have to say Fisherman that I did mention we had used the Lleithyr club site. What I didn't mention is we went in August, it was packed with families and children, there was also a big private camp going on next door, mostly teenagers, so the club site is between the two quite different set ups. It was boisterous and noisy and I probably wouldn't want to go in August again but all the campsites in the area were full. Whitesands Beach is very popular with families. It certainly isn't a site used exclusively by OAPS but obviously when the schools are not on holiday you won't see many children except at weekends when people drive out from the Cardiff area etc. It must have just been a coincidence that you saw less children on the club site for your visit. Equally we've just been to Hillhead where, out of school time, there were just two children but I can assure you later on it will be packed with families.
Your thread title was ambiguous to say the least which is why some have responded in the way they have. So let's be clear, Lleithyr is a busy popular family site but could offer some peace and quiet for those who travel outside the school holidays. And as for the future of the Club (you asked) I'm sure with sites like this in a beautiful coastal area the club can offer both quiet and busy according to the season.

Actually, I've only just read the thread title again carefully. And I think some of us may owe you an apology, F, since it only appears to make sense if interpreted as you answering your own question and saying club sites are NOT elitist and non family friendly. (Which is exactly what we find whenever we use them)!

I have only just read this thread, but would like to pick up on a basic error in Fisherman's original post. He makes a very out of date statement that he assumes that the commercial site next door would be dearer than the CC site. That might have been the case a few years ago, but its my experience in recent years that the CC site will almost certainly be the dearer of the two. Thats why I haven't used a CC club site for about 3 years. Commercial sites are usually cheaper and today have improved to the point that they normally offer as good facilities.
I usually use CL's anyway and many of them are now offering similar standards.

I tend to agree that "out of season" when we senior citizens tend to use sites some commercial sites who are trying to "attract" visitors tend to reduce their prices, just to keep things at "cost?"but as said on many threads the "hidden extras", if req, do tend to bring them in line with both clubs, prices on most occasions ,then become more expensive when the peaks and families have no option but to pay higher prices as is the norm in all areas of the leisure industry

The site next door is about £3 cheaper for two adults in the main summer holiday but there are only 36 hook-ups available on a 96 pitch site, plus a deposit and a minimum 7 night booking. Both sites are good and most families will be heading for the big beach down the hill. The area is excellent for beaches and walking, but it is a very popular holiday area in late July/August.

If it wasnt for the excellent CL network which is the jewel in the CMC crown. Why else would all those customers pay around fifty quid a year for a membership card.
Unless its for the use of the very nice public lavatories on CMC sites. Cls versus cmc sites ---now that would make for a nice discission.1 -
Hello Brue, we have an active six year old boy in the family and he would really enjoy a site like that one you describe.....although the inland Club sites with just a swing and a seesaw, but where bikes are frowned upon, football is banned, and kites are forbidden would not please him very much. He is already excited at the prospect of his summer holiday on a camp site where one of the swimming pools has water slides, and is wondering whether Grandpa will dare go down with him. Another world.

....but if he does, you'll say the opposite
only kidding Alan, as you know...

Fish, you need to get out of Wales a bit more. It does sound as though some of the sites get you down a bit....
Be pleased though if you could recommend somewhere on North Wales coastal area, ideally no more than £18 per night. Showers a bonus, but could live without as we use our own most of time....

Take the Dog=Van all over the UK. Did the Scottish 500 for 30 years on an annual basis. Use CC, Cls and commercials for 150+ nights a year. Hardly parochial. Look at Haven- Hafan y Mor ( off season). Excellent Cs in Dolgellau Area and ample commercials. I hear Google can be good but no Welsh language version though. We are sheep country so could have dog restrictions on many sites.

Excellent post ive made a note of the site & date for future visits to that area .
Its nice members like this take time out of their precious holiday day to inform the rest of the elite membership of an updated version of late availability to us older silver haired members.
9 out 10 for your observation skills , sorry no one gets 10 . 😎
