HI we are visiting Aberbran and this area for the first time in a couple of weeks.  We are starting out from Portsmouth way so will be using the M4.  Anyone suggest which is the best way to go from there.  Never trust satnav.  I presume A40 but not sure which way from there is best.  Thanks for your comments.

    From the site web page

From Brecon Bypass (A40): at the roundabout at the end of the dual carraigeway continue on the A40 (sign posted Llandovery). In about 3 miles turn right at the signpost to Aberbran (see caravan site signpost). The site is on the left in 0.5 mile - do not enter first site, but continue over river bridge. The site entrance is third on the left immediately before demolished railway bridge (Club signs on both sides of road). Note: do not turn into private drive immediately before Club Site entrance

Tomorrow, I would suggest M4 all the way to Junct'n 24, A449, A40 West, then as ET posted above. Enjoy your stay there.

Why do you never trust your sat nav? If you download the Club POI's for their sites and check out the route beforehand, especially the final approach, it should be reasonably accurate. At least that is what I have found using my TomTom.

Your remark may well have been 'tongue in cheek' but, without face to face contact, it appears to be derogatory regarding another poster and has therefore been removed.

I'm not (overly) familiar with either route, but for time comparison Googlemaps has just 3 mins difference between the two....smile

using Tomtom MyDrive (set up for my MH) there's about 9 mins in it.

so, much more about the ease of route than making a huge time difference....

Fisherman suggests that there are worst climbs in North Wales. There may be but if I remember the road correctly is there not a section of the A40 that is 1 in 5 best avoided by many outfits with any concern over hillstarts. It is three years since I drove that way and I was travelling down grade

My maps are loaded in the car and caravan as we are off later this morning

Thanks everyone I did not mean to cause a problem.  The reason I do not trust the sat Nav as in the past it has tried to do some very strange routes and yes I do have caravan club POIs downloaded.  The real problem is I don't think it gets enough as we live in Guernsey and only get used when in UK towing.  I will go and have a look at boat those routes now.

ensure you have it set to 'fastest route' which will prioritise major (faster) roads over smaller ones.smile

'shortest route' will have you cutting corners, possibly down a narrow lane, just to save a few yards....frown

The Comment was not derogatory WTG. Your advice seems sensible to me and the more so since you have more experience of the route than I do.

WayToGo as your last call to the area we are then going to Shawsmead.  I presume there is no problems going to here.  Hope you ok with me asking. 😀

I assume the comment reference was to me. I gave an honest opinion, after living in Brecon for many years ( before the CC was brought even)and a native of further North in Wales. What I was saying  was. if the Bwlch hill frightens pullers, then don't think of the Dinas Mawddwy route, or other passes in North Wales. The roads are excellent and used by thousands of caravans each year and. used daily by buses, HGV etc.

I would certainly bow to your experience, WTO. Some-one's suggestion, who has travelled that road often, certainly has it over my thoughts, who's very infrequently travelled that way.
