Lady Margaret's Park Club Site
Hi All,
We're going to Lady Margarets for the 1st time next week & I've got a few questions please.
Whats the TV signal like from a roof top aerial?
Are there any shops supermarkets within walking distance?
We intend to eat out in Chirk, can anyone recommend a dog friendly Pub etc where we can get a meal. We're in a Motorhome so within reasonable walking distance if poss.
We'd like to visit the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, how far is this from the site (we do have cycles).
Thanks

Fisherman knows all about LMP, he will fill you in.

The village is about a mile away but the canal and the railways station about half that distance. I always use Google Earth to check these things out.

There is a small co--op, just before you leave town, along the main road going towards Wrexham, easy cycling distance. Closer is the small Spar (iI think) right in the centre of town. Otherwise, plenty of big stores on the outskirts of Wrexham.
We rarely eat out, so cannot comment there.
The big aqueduct is within cycling distance, We have explored some of the canal on foot, but took the car to visit the aqueduct.

T/V signal intermittent. Even though in Wales you cant get S4C. No bollard connection or boosters.
Facilities tired. Access good. Plenty of dog walks on site and N/T Chirk Castle adjacent. Beware there are sheep there and it is lambing time- NO WAY SHOULD DOGS BE OFF LEAD.
Choice of bus routes to Wrexham, Llangollen and Oswestry from Town. Local bus to Glyn Ceiriog adjacent to Railway Station. Details in Info Shed. Village is say .5 mile from site, steepish hill on way back.
Canal access by Roundabout as you get to site. Can bike to Aquaduct ,say 2 miles. Alternative is Llangillen Bus or even all way to Llangollen.
Spar Shop, excellent butcher and a bread shop in village. Co op slightly towards Halton End. Hand Hotel have offers for club members. Good hotels up Ceiriog Valley. Café at Chirk Castle. Book of local eating places in Info Shop.
Trust this helps. but not my favourite site but only one open in Winter in North Wales..

Remember to turn LEFT when you get to Chirk Gates. Heard of someone turning right when arriving at night, with a Twin Axle to boot. Must have been hair raising to have to try to turn it around.
I do seem to recall seeing someone with a dog in the Hand pub in the centre of Chirk, easy walk from site. Maybe check out their website.

Been a few times to Chirk, it's a really nice site and area. The facilities could possibly do with an upgrade but they were always clean and perfectly serviceable when we used them
TV signal is a bit 'hit and miss' but wardens should be able to advise you better. We were on a pitch, down towards the bottom of the site, under a tree and got a perfect signal!
Eating out at the local pubs, well that's subjective and depends on your palate. We used Trip Advisor for restaurants in the area. One of the top-rated is a curry house, within walking distance and I have to say, it was one of the worst meals ever.
Other pubs in the town were also very hit and miss. We travelled to Llangollen in the end
Wish you a good stay 😀

The website for pub on the canal closest to the site says its dog friendly but we were turned away with Molly the Mutt ..... obviously left hand doesn't know the right hand exists.
We ate at The Boathouse which wasn't very far away. Very reasonable meal for reasonable money. And there was another dog friendly pub just over their other side of the Ponty aquaduct. (There's even a sign that tells you how to say it)

It's site we use regularly in the off-peak months. We like it for the walks, get an OS map, we always take one, and you'll find footpaths in every direction. Last time we were there, early January, we walked up to, and along Offa's Dyke, in both directions. A stiff climb, but worth it for the views once on top!
Also the walk along the canal to Pontsyclite aquaduct is very nice. We've never cycled it though, there are some muddy sections on the towpath. Once over the aquaduct, there is a nice marina.
We've eaten out at The Hand in Chirk, it's not a long walk from the site, but advisable to take a torch for on the way back for the last bit. Like jonray57 upthread, we have eaten at the curry house too, and also had a negative experience, as OH was violently sick all night afterwards.
The drawback to the site can be the noise from nearby factories, but if you've read the reviews, you'll know about that. In winter not a problem, but would imagine in summer it could be irritating when sitting out.
Enjoy!

Can't add much, except to say that I don't find the factory noise that intrusive. There's a good fruit and veg shop and tea room which serves nice meals in the village and the Spar shop sells most of what you might need without taking the car out but, if you need a bigger supermarket, there's a Sainsbury's in Oswestry or Tesco going in the other direction.
Easy to catch train for a day out in Chester if you feel like a change of activity.0 -
I'll be there myself on 8th April for a week.

I don't leave a review every time I go because not much changes. Looking forward to the upgraded toilet block next year.
Many of the pitches are looking tired and untidy and could do with some attention whilst one or two others should, in my opinion, be taken out to allow adjacent pitches to be made larger.
Access to the site is now much smoother since the road was resurfaced.
Recommend The Tea Room and Bistro - opposite Spar - (parking in the main village car park at the rear). Open all day.
