Buses to Skipton

Hi Folks

 

Does anyone know how often the buses run to and from Skipton from the Bolton Abbey Caravan and Motorhome Site, how near is the bus stop to the site and approximately how long does it takes to get to Skipton by bus?

    There isn't one, not direct anyway.  No shops either within reasonable walking distance so stock up before you pitch up.

    I very occasionally have a look in from time to time but don't usually post anymore. Not fallen out with anyone (AFAIK) just lost interest in forums generally.

    You are out in the semi wilds at Bolton Abbey Site, gorgeous location. Skipton is around 20 minutes drive, and if you use the Barbican car park, just before you get into town, you will be able to park a big MH with ease. Small charge, security on gate, 2 minute walk to town centre, fairly level from there. It does mean negotiation the infamous arch to get in and out, but buses do go through, so easy with care. 

    Buses are unlikely to be frequent, maybe two a day......if you are lucky!

    I think you have to go to the village to get that bus. The Grassington bus goes from just over the road from the BA site, good service for stopping off points too. smile

    We have been a couple of times to the site (booked in again later this year) and the area used to be local to me so have travelled the road many times over the past 45 years or so since I started motorcycling. Approach the arch square on, I also put headlights on main beam to try and deter oncoming traffic from getting too close to the arch and you will be fine. Otherwise i would go to Grassington for local shopping and drive by car to Skipton and elsewhere so you can explore some of the byways and villages - i suspect the bus will take an eternity.

    The bus ride to Grassington is lovely, dropping walkers and locals off in some attractive spots, worth it just to see a few more places and views along the way. smile

    Actually, the buses are not that bad. They have been successful in bringing people into the area who are without their own transport from the various towns. However, they are basically tourist buses with limited timetables so be very careful not to (for example) end up having that extra pint in the Craven Arms at Appletreewick or you might be in trouble.

    Having said that, there are worse places to be in trouble if you know what I meanwink

    Ilkley is closer if it's stocking up with food or general shopping that you're wanting. Not sure if a bus goes that way though.

    Yes, the final 100 yards or so looked a bit daunting the first time I visited the area but no problem.
