Hi all just about to renew my cover and reading through the small print it states our caravan has to be stored in a location with a barrier at the entrance and the minimum of 20 caravans stored on site. Ours is on a caravan static park with storage facilities for about ten units with no barrier.

Does anyone else have this issue?

they normally ask where the van is stored, so if you tell them the name and postcode of the storage site, if they accept this and it's written in the policy you are insured and its there problem if a claim is submitted as they should have checked the site online and refused to insure you.

Many thanks for that, we have been insured for the past year and never saw that in the small print. It clearly states on the policy where it is stored.

If it states that in the policy, that’s what you need to have. Claiming they should have known won’t wash in my opinion. Do you expect insurance companies to hold details on every storage site in the uk, and inspect them regularly in case things change. You take out the policy, you sign the form and agree to the terms, you either meet them or run the risk of refusal in a claim situation. If I were you I’d contact them and ask, perhaps giving details of another person enquiringly initially, to see what they say.

Rang CETA today and they said they have no insurance policy available for a caravan stored in a compound without a security barrier. I don’t know how other people get on with their insurance as all the storage sites I have looked at don’t have a barrier. They are looking into it for me via a commercial insurance type of policy.  Any help from you would be great. What if your unit is parked in your front drive, there must be a ton of people in that situation.

Yes, we park in an open fronted shed near a public road in a remote area with just a hitchlock on the Caravan - no gates, no barriers, no wheel clamps and no tracker. Some insurance companies are happy with that and simply charge me more, but some of the cheaper insurance companies are not and ask for all sorts of security to cover their backs.
