I booked my pitches at cheltenham race course on 6th December between 9 am and 930 am for arrival on 18th April to cover the two day race meeting. On the morning of 10th April the warden rang to cancel my pitch along with allegedly 63 other people because the glitch booked 80 pitches when there was only 17 available, the warden then had to phone all these people in order of timed bookings last to first and the lucky 17 could arrive. The club say book a year ahead to secure a pitch not this time and blame the computer easy isn't it.A better system may not have had The Glitch a bespoke system may have performed more efficiently.

Regards David Randall.

Our pitch has also been cancelled this morning. I am very angry because we booked on the 6th December. What is the point of booking so early. Been offered bourton on the water instead. What's the good of that if your going to Cheltenham for the 2day race meeting. The team at the caravan bookings should have let us know they had overbooked us all. They would do better to send us race tickets instead of fobbing us with excuses

I think the managed site at Cheltenham is very much at the behest of the owners(the racecourse) so it is very possible that the club were not advised of reduction in pitches until recently, as i do not think  the site is open until after the Gold Cup,so the only pitches that look as if they are allowed to now use are the few on the grass backing on to one of the car parks (nearest  the park and rideundecided

The bookings were taken by the caravan club so they are responsible. It was down to the club to inform us. Cheltenham racecourse always have pitches on hardstanding on racedays although grass pitches some years are not available.

I could understand hard stand being unavailable but not the grass

They have but as the site only opened on the 2nd April ? then the problem may only have materialized when they fired their systems up

The grass pitches at the Racecourse are quite often not available after the Gold cup as they get "destroyed" by the marques that are on them for some weeks before the site opens

If you are looking for an alternative there is another small site in Cheltenham near to GCHQ which is on a good bus service although I expect you would need to change in town. Have a look here http://www.davidklyne.co.uk/briarfields_touring_park.html

There's a grand CL not too far away, H/S EHU, Serviced pitches...Pardon Hill Fm, Prescott which is not in the site directory as it was new in Sept 17. They also do B&B. You may be fortunate to get a pitch if you're quick.

This is their e-mail address :-pardonhillfarm@btconnect.com

    Hi Dave

    Hope your keeping well:

This was a glitch on the old system on booking frenzy day and this is one of the reasons the Club has brought a new system in this year because of things like this keep happening.

We were working at Brighton in December and the same thing happened for Gay Pride week in August double booking hundreds of people so not unique too Cheltenham, phone the Wardens and tell them what happened to you they make take pity on a retiree.

    Regards

Oh, I do get so bored with people complaining about the CMC's website.*

It has been faulty for years (literally!)

Is there likely to be any improvement in the future ?  On past performance, probably not.  If I were in the CMC's management I'd be embarrassed about it.  But I'm not and I've found that the easiest thing is just to chill and live with it (which won't be for long in my case as I'm leaving when my membership is up in the Autumn - not leaving just because of the website / IT system, but it's a factor!)

    * Yes, I'm being sarcastic undecided

Just returned from Broadway site. Steam train service direct to Cheltenham Racecourse station. Job done.
