Just looked at a Cl we used. Ours was the last review - in 2015. Says it all about the system.

Why? There's no compulsion for those using the CL to leave a review, and as has been noted above some don't like to leave reviews of their favourite sites as they think that will encourage other's to visit and they won't be able to get a pitch. Then again you could be the last to visit following your review.wink

True review given. Should I have glossed over the overcrowding? Seems strange that no one has put a review in over 2 years, don't you think. Is it the system I wonder.

I tried to post a copy of a review from another website onto one of CLs we used on way home from Wales. Just happened to read last review left, which stands out a mile from all others. It left me wondering if the member in question actually found the right CL, 'cos it bears no resemblance to what we stayed on, and I have the photos to prove it! Sadly, I can't post them. frown

It doesn't surprise me in the least. I'm sure some people just pick a site as they pass without looking to see if it is actually the one they've booked. On Friday a M/H drove onto our present CL, filled up with water, set up on blocks, EHU connected then the couple went off to search for the pub. After then taking to the owner, who had shown them to their pitch, they realised that they's come into the wrong site, the one they wanted and where they'd paid a deposit was 2 mls further down the road and was a C&CC CS, so they returned to the van, wound up and left!! One would hardly credit it, as the name's completely different from the site they'd booked and has all the appropriate club notices at the entrance.

We got confused a couple of years ago. I had booked CL, told OH directions were at top of page in book. They were, but on opposite page! We finally realised our mistake late that night in dark, after we were pitched up, had eaten and gone to bed. Too late to phone CL we had booked! We stayed on first CL for a night, had a good laugh with owners, and then shot off to CL we had booked, who found it hilarious luckily! We gave both CLs a good review, and have used both since!embarassed

Thanks, I can see it now but why do we have to click on"read Reviews" in order to leave one? Most odd but then so is so much of this website.

Thanks, brue, for the recommendation. They do seem to have a strange/different pricing structure though, and no update for 2018. How narrow is the approach to the site, BTW?

We stayed there about 8 years ago. Great views, nice owners. Not surprised to see our review missing.

The very same thing happened to a member who turned up on a CL in the Peak District last year. He was adamant he had booked and the owner apologised to the other 5 occupants for the extra van stopping. The cl he was supposed to be on rang him the following day and he sheepishly moved. Things like this happen.

It's a lengthy narrow approach but we thought it was worth it. The local walks kept us going in all directions, especially the coast path towards the Salcombe estuary, a beautiful area to explore.

     DAVID

I don't have frustrations about this forum, just Disappointment. However, to prove you wrong, I was timed out last night trying to contact a CLyell....  Then could not log in again to this abomination of a forum you seem to love so muchyellyell.

I don't stay logged in all day as I have better things to do with my time, if you prefer a sedentary life style then so be it, it's your choice.  Why should I have to resort to a word process to post a review??? No other forum requires this faffing about, not even the very small ones, that have less than five hundred memberssurprised

By not posting CL reviews on here (But posting where they are appreciated) and also giving my  reasons, then perhaps "The Minders" of this forum(You?) can make sure that the message will get through to the  people that matter and not give glib answers to points that have been raised.

I personally, don't start my search at the "CL review section", as you like to call it. My search depends on where I will be going, my choice of CL is mine alone, so I don't need a sixth sense, as you put it. The same as TDA, I ask trusted fellow users for their opinions and that of their friends, as well as talking to the owners concerned. It's never let me down yet.

At the end of the day, (what a horrible terminology) as you put it, I think that you are wrong in your thinking of where people start to look,You are not the peoples champion, so please don't speak for them.

Good to note that there are more reviews just lately. In fact we've already booked a couple of weeks as a result and would have done a third one if it hadn't been booked solid for the dates we wanted.

Keep up the good work, folks! smile

I post reviews of CL's on here and on UKcampsites.co.uk as I believe it is imperative to support CL's to keep them going.

Use reviews on both those resources and google maps where you can search for CLs and find google reviews (something the younger generation hold credence in) to get an idea of what is what.

Have found that sites/CLs with non recent reviews are invariably hidden nuggets that aren't advertised for a reason!! cool

Many years ago I used an unknown ski resort that was almost like a private mountain, that was understood by users to be 'kept quiet' about. Unfortunately, a national Radio presenter joined our party and blabbed to all and sundry. That ski resort is now overcrowded and full of blocks of rental apartments. cry

I read your review for Heath Cottage, near Tenby. Very good it was too 👍 We’re there for four days in June 🙂

Reviews are useful, not only to Members but to CL Owners like me too. I was wondering if others here feel that it's easy for members to actually leave a review?

To my mind it's not an intuitive process - especially for the occasional user of CL's or Club Together.

There's no big button that invites a review.  Once on the CL's page you have to click the Reviews Tab, and then in small red writing in the top right-hand corner there's the request to "Review and rate this site".

Wouldn't it be more intuitive to have a nice big button (as per the CL Website or Email on the top page) that says "Review this CL"

When I went looking for this link the other day it took me a good couple of minutes!

Agree totally CG. It's not a good website to leave a review on. Clunky actually finding where to leave a review, and no method of inserting photos. The dreaded time out seems not so bad lately though. So much easier to review sites on other websites, so I tend to do it elsewhere with photographs. Site owners are actively encouraged to join Caravan Chat and to post details of their site there, with photographs, might help one or two who haven't had an up to date review of their site for a while.

Moulesy, Have just spent 7 outstanding nights on an excellent CL, = Wildmeer Farm Mildenhall Suffolk.  UHU, water and waste facilities for each Pitch located in a lovely secluded  glade. All for £12 per night. See the web page!  But as I don't use this clunky forum much these days I haven't a clue how and where to leave a report. It used to be much easier!  Perhaps thats why more people don't do it!

TF, Under UK holidays - UK Sites select Certificated Locations. You will get the CL page click on Search For A CL. Type the site name in the top box, a list should appear after first few letters from which you click  the appropriate CL and scroll down to the Search box, click on that and the site details will appear. On the right hand side is a review summery, select "Read more reviews". You'll then get the review ratings and to the right in red is "Review and rate this site", select that and go from there. Hope that this helps. If not you know where to find me.wink

Well nth very succinctly put 😉. A doddle to find 😢 By the time you've done all that one has to hope you still have the will to write a review. The club really ought to make this much easier to do. I seriously wonder if the club realise the value that CL'S bring to the club 😭😢

If I could have written it in a shorter way so that it still made sense I would have done so. I agree that it does seem excessively complicated but 'tis easy when you know how!!wink I think that there are the odd one at OH who do realise the importance of CLs but they are in a very small minority with no clout to push them to the top of the list.

Perhaps what they should do is rather just have a flag to read reviews it should read and add reviews. It does seem easier to find and add reviews for CL's than it is for Club sites?

If you search (on computer) by name and insert Wild it will come up with Wildmere, so not too much of a problem

Thanks all, I think that you have very effectively proved my point, its just not user friendly.  Bakers2 covered it very well.  By the time you get there you've lost all enthusiasm to do a report.

Come on CC, sort this B***** forum out!  Make it quicker, far less clunky, and easier to navigate.

The problem with some reviews is that they cna do a lot of damage. We visited a lovely CL recently where there had been some really bad reviews which made statements like "the toilet block was vile" and complaining about noise from the main road. We found the toilet to be basic but clean and heard no road noise whatsoever so we felt the poor reviews were way off the mark. Speaking to the owners, they told us that they very nearly closed the CL as the poor reviews decimated the business for the year. Added to that they appear to have no way of putting their point of view across to dispute any false claims and the club would not remove them even though they were clearly factually incorrect. Quite a few good reviews have now been added which push the bad ones down the list but they are still there. This is why I take very little notice of reviews and prefer to see for myself. I have very very rarely thought a CL was not up to scratch and when I do I don't visit again.

Seems the club woud rather spend time and money on Facebook( and we know how bad that is) rather than on their own forum. Again giving little support to Cls
