thinking of going away soon in the caravan and looking at reviews a few people have mentioned flooding on grass and hardstanding pitches at the moment. On reviews other caravaners might appreciate reports on flooding.

There is a commercial site close to us. Vans & tents. I would not be venturing on with my  campervan after seeing the state. Suggest you only use Hard Standings for the next few weeks. Our next trip would be to St Davids but only after speaking to the site direct as all are Grass

I read that Steamer Quay provided mats to access the grass but if the conditions are really bad I imagine a lot of damage will occur on some sites.

Given the weather we often get in March and early April it really does seem to early to open grass pitches, unless they are extremly well drained. Damage will inevitably occur. I remember our second outing with a caravan, Easter some 13 years ago, to a very wet Malvern. We ended up on a large area of grass. Although we managed to get on and off with little damage, others did not and large furrows were carved, which must have ruined the area for the rest of the year.

We received a call today from a CL in South Norfolk we were due to go to tomorrow advising us that their grass pitches are water logged. They haven't offered us our deposit back expecting us to book later in the year - we'll see! In the meantime we have booked a pitch at Incleboro Fields, North Norfolk who have assured us they can provide a dry pitch - at least we will have full facilities and the Wardens are great.

We wer at Moreton In Marsh over Easter, and although on hard standing, surrounding grassy areas were very wet and puddling, some hard standing pitches also had pretty big pools on them.

narrowness of some pitches and sharp turn on to roadways had caused lots of muddy tire tracks.

on the other hand, a friend just returned from Sandringham, and said it was quite firm yesterday.

Yes, and then heed/accept the first hand knowledge of those managing specific site conditions and situations.

Ironically loads of Incleboro's  pitches are grass.

Grass pitches on all sites must depend on what the soil is like and and the terrain that the site is in ,Sandringham is very sandy so will drain quickly as are some areas of Clumber park Incleborough Fields is mostly on the site of a hill so pitches at the top will dry far more quickly than those lower down,  whereas Moreton in Marsh is flat and on "marshland",the site we were on over easter all the grass pitches were in use as it was mostly very shallow soil on rocky ground and over 700ft above sea level that also does not hold the water,,

So as others have stated if worried the the site you wish to visit a ring,How does it go "it pays to talk"wink

The site we were on over Easter, Ferry Meadows, was saturated ..... and that was on the granite chippings.

Ferry Meadows has a problem with drainage on some hardstandings as there is a band of brick clay that runs under some of the all year side

We were on the 'all year side'. The junction by the toilet block was submerged most of the time, as were grasses areas and the ditch behind our row of pitches. That said, water levels on the lakes in the country park were high too.

Never mind, the B&B's, cottages and hotels are still there! As are the cruise ships and the planes!

If we listen to the doom mongers, winters will get progressively wetter. What hope for any site including CC and Cls if they want a long season.

When we were there about four weeks ago the path that goes beside the golf course and along by the Nene was inpasable as it was underwater

Just  this  hour,  got  back  from  Old  Hartley,  oop  Noocassle  whey, ( sorry  'bout  the  dialect  laughing  ).  There  they  have  lovely 'van  sized  h/stands  but  the  access  to  them  is  over  Grass  &  right  now  it's  exceedingly  wet.  This  means  that  the Wardens,  bless  their  cotton  socks,  are  laying  very stiff  square  rubber  mats  to  allow  us  onto  &  off  the  standing  without  doing  too  much  damage,  but  even  my  5m41  van  started  spinning  its  wheels,  so  some  damage  to  grass  occurred  despite  all  our  efforts.  Some  larger  'vans  have  already  been  chewing  up  the  approaches  in  a  serious  manner,  such  that  even  tho'  parked  on  top  of  the  cliff  some  pitches  are  already  Out  Of  Service.

Just about to book a trip that involves flying across the Atlantic, cruising on a big heavy oil guzzling ship round the caribbean, then fly back. cool Fastest growing form of holidays, I understand. That cruise line launches a 4th, even bigger boat soon.

Fortunately the aircraft fuel doesn't attract penalties from governments so the price is good tongue-out Is that wot 'Duty Free' is about?

The ship will be moored alongside for half the time, burning oil to keep the air con going, making all those meals and heating the swimming pools. tongue-out Again a good price in compare to a camping holiday per diem all in.

Weather forecast just said it'll be hot and dry from this time next week. Just in time for our next weekend away at Black Knowl. So the puddles hiding the potholes on the approach lane might have dried out in order to see them to dodge them cool

Brian, 3 years ago and also 2 years ago we wrote to the C&MC about Old Hartley and there silly little bits of grass between H/S and road.

Just enough grass to get bogged down in when its wet yet it would only take a small amount of effort to fill this in with gravel right to the road edge and keep these pitches in full working order.

We've actually stopped using this site as I no longer find it VFM, which is a shame as the views are to die for on a nice day.
