Caravan bike rack

Does anyone use the bike rack fitted to the caravan rear? I am considering which type of bike rack will be best, but thought that the weight of bikes would de- destabilise the caravan, being on the rear.   Thoughts appreciated.

You see hardly any UK Caravanners with bikes on the rear of vans the general advice is it causes instability though the Dutch seem to be more amenable to the idea. Presumably you have done some calculations on the effect of the weight of the bikes/rack on your payload and the weight you need to keep at the front to produce a reasonable noseweight.

Just like Deleted User User we have a Fiamma bike rack on our Caravan and have travelled many miles, both home and abroad without issues.

You should check your nose weight once the bikes are loaded to ensure you remain between the 5% to 7 % of your MTPLM as the extra weight at the rear changes the balance so some adjustment of your User Payload will usually be required.

If your van has a suitable rear wall it go ahead. There is so much rubbish spouted by people who have no experience of using one. It' easily the most popular way to transport bikes on the continent and they have been doing this caravanning mullarkey a lot longer than us Brits. I have used one on our Burstner for over 12 years and never had any issue at all.
