Dampness under warranty
Hi
Bought a brand new Elddis xplore 586 last year, just had its 1st service today and it is riddled with dampness. For a van that is less than 1 year old and branded as part of the solid construction with a 10 year water ingress guarantee, to say I’m disappointed is an understatement! Some of the readings were 50 percent!
Anyone been through this or got any advice on how to handle this and the process?
Thanks

I have my 2016 Elddis Supreme 482 (Dealer Special) in for a damp repair at the moment.
Originally damp was found on the first service (May 2017) around the battery locker area (20 – 30%). Went in for repair in September 2017 but was returned to the dealer by the repairer as the dealer had not obtained all the parts from Elddis. After a lot of calls and emails to the dealer, I finally dropped it off on the 22nd January 2018 for repair. Dealer said it would be two to three weeks, I’m still waiting after nearly five weeks. Apparently the repairer has found additional damp on two windows so had to get approval from Elddis for the new repair. Not surprisingly to us the supplying dealer didn’t know anything about the new damp issue! Should be back from the repairer ‘very shortly’ according to the conversation I’ve just had, and then they need to fix the water supply issue (new PCB in the Whale water heater) I reported in January. Fingers crossed it's back next weekend.
Apparently the repairer the dealer uses is very good, pity the dealer isn't more proactive! Unfortunately as far as the process goes, your in the hands of the dealer.
My wife and I go away on our own these days as the daughter is at university, so having downsized from a much larger (and dryer) van, were hoping to keep this one a while, but the latest news isn’t very encouraging. Having said that, with all manufactures getting a slating for water ingress issues, what else do we buy?
All the best with your claim,
Chris

This just ain't good enough and if anyone suggests it's only a small minority of many new / ish caravans produced they should try holding the short end of the stick.
Until Clubs / Magazines use their weight ( and that ain't gonna happen ) nothing will be done. From little acorns ? someone should set up a complaints forum for users to report their findings and if ness' turn up en mass to dealers and manufacturing plants, local and national news programmes would follow up if more than fifty caravans were pulled into town.
We should all be behind this even if we haven't personally had major problems with our 'van. I've run a successful business for 21yrs and could not afford complaints like this being published.

Great idea from indoors in Leicestershire . Get it set up and watch the numbers grow.Form a group on facebook not through the club and when there is a sizeable group set up a fighting fund to take legal action against the manufacturers. I will be your first member and when numbers are sufficient will contribute to the fund. We could use the forum like an insurance scheme to stand up against them.

As per my previous post ( a leaky problem)
this is our club, why is it not lobbying on our behalf..??
we need this club to stand up for us and tell us how bad things are.

Why is it that everybody seems to expect someone else to do something about their perceived problems?
D.I.Y. people.

D.I.Y invalidates the warranty. so that's a No No
The problem is due to poor build quality by British caravan manufacturers and the fact that they have been getting away with it for decades. . Nothing will change until the buying public give those manufacturers a huge body-swerve.-----There's no point in expecting caravan organisations such as the CMC to do anything about the problem. (for obvious reasons).
Personal responsibility will win the day. Do extensive research before parting with your hard earned cash and if any particular manufacturer receives poor feedback, strike them from your buying choices..

Good idea, except all makes seem to have poor feed-back. Perhaps a better criterion would be the time taken to correct faults.
My reference to D.I.Y. was intended to suggest that instead of demanding that someone else do something about the perceived problem, rather the complainer should take the initiative and set up a complainers website/forum/organisation themselves and take the lead.

Is it possible that 'we' are wanting less polluting cars (lower car tax) smaller engines lighter towing capacity and therefore they need to make caravans lighter but to include more fittings to make our holidays more enjoyable/comfortable.
As a result the materials used are thinner lighter and far less resilient to twisting cracking panels. I have to wonder what is the future for the whole industry when traditional cars are no longer avaiable.

A strong possibility is that the traditional towed Caravan will be no more and anybody who wants to camp will either use a small electric powered Campervan or take up Glamping. The CMC have already foreseen this change and are installing camping pods etc on their sites.
