Bolton Abbey CMC site
I recently booked a stay at the Bolton Abbey site for July. It looks a good site for walking and as we caravan with our Irish Setters it seemed ideal. On looking closer it appears that the majority of pitches on this site are non awning pitches. With having the dogs I feel an awning is essential so what do you think the chances are of getting there and finding no awning pitches available? I'm panicking a bit here! 😞

Why not try the Wharfedale site at Grassington, or unless you specifically want a club site, try Wood Nook just up the road from there. We stayed there with our 2 Setters last year, a very nice site with spacious pitches and walks up onto the hills direct from the site. A little more expensive than the club site and a tricky last half mile access, but a very nice, dog friendly site.

If you have booked an awning pitch, there will be one available. What sort of pitch have you booked, assume if you use an awning you have booked an awning pitch?

Settermum, there are good dog walks from the site along by the river in both directions, but please be aware that dogs are not allowed on the footpaths up to Simon Seat and on the fells on the west side of the road. The land is owned by the Devonshire Estates ( I think) and they are shooting moors, hence the ban on dogs.
There's a very pleasant walk from Burnsall along the river to Grassington, but you'll have to get there early to park by the bridge for free.

Bolton Abbey is currently closed while they are adding more awning pitches! In fact, I think it reopens Good Friday. But as far as we are aware, there a lot of awning pitches anyway? It is a brilliant site for dog owners, there is a small 200 metre safe dog walk adjacent to the site, accessed just on the slope down to lower pitches, but straight outside the site is miles of walks. Just be aware of how dangerous the Strid is, and that dogs are not allowed on certain moors. This is Devonshire land, and the killing of pheasants and grouse takes priority in some areas!

There are plenty of awning pitches and as H&T has said if you've booked an awning pitch then there will be no problem. Excellent walking area and you'll be able to walk your dogs from site along the river in either direction.
Be aware that many people have problems with phone signal and take a tv booster cable if that's your thing.

Yep, you get what you booked either awning or non-awning.
If you booked the wrong type, just amend your booking.

Ah of course, thanks guys I completely forgot that I could book an awning pitch. It's been so long since the last time, last year was a flop as far as caravanning was concerned. I checked my booking and I had booked an awning pitch. Thanks also for all the additional information it's good to know. Thanks. 😁

This is becoming one of our favourite sites. Great with dogs, lovely restaurant just a short walk away at Barden Towers ( need to book, often closed for weddings). The non awning pitches are very few in number (2 I believe) and simply because they are a bit tight for a large awning. Be careful with your dogs when by The Strid but otherwise enjoy! We are there for a weekend mid June.

It's not only Yorkshiremen that won't pay £10 to park there. I for one would never ever consider giving that sort of money to Devonshire Estates to park on their land.
