We were hoping to get away in the van in the first week of April, just after Easter, as we'll be busy leading up to us going to Germany at the end of the month. However the last 2 days has just been manic, with appointments for Doctors, Dentists, Hospitals, Opticians, Funeral to attend,Roofer calling in to do some work, Follow ups at hospital etc etc. that we'll just be glad to get away at the end now. We even had 2 appointments arrive today for MIL, both for the same day, one at Optician in  morning and one at Hospital in afternoon and of course she wanted to move one, the optician being easiest so we now have 2 days tied up.

Still, it gives me time to get everything done. Just the attic to clear out now from my original list,as garage done and doors sorted.

We've spent the morning partly at Screwfix and partly at NT Monatcute House (I enjoyed the latter bit...wink)

I wanted to see the Elizabeth of Bohemia exhibition, courtesy of the National Portrait Gallery before the visitors pour in over Easter. It was just a one room exhibition and as one of the stewards mentioned it could have been a lot more interesting. Apparently there are many letters still in existence from EofB and a few copies would have been useful, although quite a few were in code.

Well what have I learnt about the "winter queen?" For starters, she had a large nose! Also her descendants exist today through George 1st. If they'd added a map or two I might have pinpointed where Bohemia was exactly, anyway it was a nice little exhibition even though we were shuffling round in plastic disposable?surprised shoe covers that the NT in it's wisdom is now supplying us with (see "what have you seen today") I think the NT might have just made a bit of a boo boo about this, we'll see what their vociferous membership thinks, no doubt. OH took his home to help with the DIY dust he promised he wouldn't create........wink

Spent today preparing for a concert this evening in aid of MS Therapy in Wolverhampton.  Just having a drink and a quick look around CT before getting changed...

No problem with blue overshoes, had to use them when working offshore, so this member. Won’t complain.  Actually with the bad weather it's probably a good idea if one has been walking in the grounds.

Have a good concert David, what does the program consist of?🎼🎹

Blue plastic overshoes. Should have explained that they are quite slippy on carpets etc and I don't know what the NT is going to do with all this extra plastic, there were boxes and baskets full of them.

A very light programme tonight Brue.... some Disney numbers such as 'You've Got A Friend In Me, 'Beauty and the Beast, 'God Help The Outcasts as well as arrangements of 'When the Saints Go Marching In', 'Put A Little Love In Your heart', 'You Raised Me Up', 'You'll Never Walk Alone', 'Alexander's Ragtime Band' and other popular favourites.  It should be a good night....

Could other visitors not have used them brue? When I used to take grand-daughter for her swimming lessons all those going into the changing rooms with them had to wear the blue overshoes but we put them in a box for re-use. Yes I agree they are slippy on carpets. I was impressed when the guy form Virgin Media came a few weeks ago to install a new router that he had some blue overshoes that we put on over his boots before he came into the house.

I was just thinking the same.....why can they not be used again!

I still have a store of used ones from my offshore and shipping days......no naked boots allowed in the accommodation areas.

That's what surprised us, seeing bins full of disposed shoe covers. Montacute House has mostly ancient oak floors that have lasted well over several hundred years. Not quite sure why this has suddenly been introduced, seeing lots of blue footed people detracts a bit from the ambience.  wink

just doing some work today for Ofqual/Ofsted reviewing standards on last year's exams and I came across a question from the Welsh board (WJEC) on their GCSE paper which made my heart soar!

Wellbuilt Caravans (that made me laugh to start with) decided to reduce the mass of their caravans to make them easier to tow...

In 2015 they reduced the mass by 8%, in 2016 they reduced... the mass by further 3%

The original mass .... was 1000 kg.... what is the mass of a new caravan after both reductions? What percentage of the original mass was the caravan reduced by?

Brilliant to see caravans used in a maths exam don't you think? I think I can safely say that whoever wrote that is a serious caravaner!

Yes - I will write to say that for next year a motorhome question should be written to keep the balancesmile

Is the answer 892.4kg? Hmm, that will be easily towable. smile

Next question. If 892.4 = 85% of the car's kerbweight, What is 100%?

What, dividing by 85 and multiplying by 100? Wouldn't have thought that was even GCSE level.

Overall reduction = 10.76%. Or have I lost the plot now?

I think NT are having a purge on dust at the moment, hence the blue overshoes. We had to put them on at Nunnington last month.

Most Leisure Centres would prefer visitors to use them in changing rooms and especially anywhere on poolsides. Outdoor shoes carry an awful lot of dirt, and in wet conditions this quickly has the floors looking very grubby, and a lot more difficult to clean. Bare feet shouldn't be paddling around in that if at all possible. They are reusable, to a certain extent, but quickly wear thin.

I've worn protective footwear in places that are in a fragile condition, but I would think places like Montacute (no original furniture or priceless carpets) are not quite so vulnerable. Anyway, after all the fuss about plastic waste it seems a bit OTT. At least OH rescued his from the bin and will use them to spread dust around at home just now.....wink

Plastic! When we are all being urged to use less plastic the NT are using these. Also I used to have to wear them if I was visiting a food factory, they are very slippy. Just imagining lots of older people walking around and trying not to slip. Not well thought out by NT on both counts.

This is an interesting read regarding plastics. Doesn't say that they are good, but asks for more research to come up with something better, providing the same or similar benefits globally
