Another one bits the dust
Interesting to note that now the club have lost the main London site of Crystal Palace. Seems that the club is constantly losing sites whilst having little ability in replacing them. About time some one was given a strong word on what the club' basic objectives should be, like providing club pitches in the right locations.
Seems the club is a comfortable, overpaid empire for the few, about time they got out and found new sites rather than the hand wringing, guess Bristol also falls I to that bracket.
The way things are going one might as well use commercial sites.

Err, just what is the club supposed to do if the landlord wants his site back?
Guess you won’t be renewing your membership, then.
Have you not heard about the new Scarborough site?

And hopefully quite a few more to follow

Bit behind the game here W&J, it was discussed in this thread about three weeks ago.

No idea but the club must think so and surely more sites/pitches has to be a good thing.

Good OP ---but will it really matter if a site in London closes. Who wants to go to London anyway ?.
Somebody mentioned a new site near Scarborough - It looks like that one is not a real CMC site. The impression is that it is a commercial site with their own pricing structure which is only affiliated to the CMC.

We're delighted to announce the purchase of Cayton Village Caravan Park (Limited), which joins our network from 1 March 2018 as Cayton Village Caravan and Motorhome Club site. Located just three miles from Scarborough, the site is within half a mile of the magnificent Cayton Bay – ideal for surfing and exploring rock pools.
Visitors to Cayton Village Club site will be able to take advantage of a children’s playground, shop, laundry facilities, nature trail, shower rooms and much more. The local pub, chip shop and village store are just a five minute walk away too.
With Scarborough and Filey on the doorstep, as well as Whitby and Bridlington within a short drive, there's plenty of seaside resort fun to be had and coastal walks to enjoy. The stunning North Yorkshire Moors are also within easy reach, as are the picturesque harbour and seaside towns of Robin Hood's Bay, Runswick Bay, Staithes and Sandsend.
This family-run touring park has been successfully operated and managed since 1989, and for the 2018 season we’ll be running the site in the same manner as the previous owners, enabling us to review and establish the most cost effective way to develop the site in future years.
All members are welcome to make a booking with us this year, by phone or email, but please be aware it may not provide a fully representative Club site experience at this stage. You can of course expect a warm welcome from our own site staff who will be on hand to greet you upon arrival and to ensure you have a fantastic stay with us at Cayton Village Club Site.
We look forward to welcoming you on site soon.

Yeah, some can’t even go and read the explanation already given.

Since when did/Does Scarborough new site relate to a inner London premium site at Crystal Palace. Get real people want to go to London not Scarborough
Members need to get behind the club finding new sites rather than deciding that one site at Scarborough is a brilliant achievement. Get real guys

Indeed M indeed, and Kennine actually posted on it here
He was quite complimentary of the new site then, wonder what has changed his mind?

You'd be surprised, It is our Capital city after all
FWIW I feel the same way about your part of the country, couldn't wait to get back on the plane when I had go there on business.

so what your saying is that the club needs to find sites near London. Is that what you meant by like providing club pitches in the right locations.
Right locations as defined by who though? you?
Personally I think any site outside of a big city is the right location, and I would take Scarborough over London any day, but I know and appreciate that others have a different and perfectly valid ideal site location. And that is the why the club'(s) basic objectives is to provide as many differing sites and locations as possible, then we can all choose what we each prefer.

Getting back to the important bit. The original post.
I can see exactly what W & J are relating to. Major sites are being lost and others maybe to follow. Major sites in popular areas are a great loss to members and there does not seem to be any concern from the club. They are stoney silent on the problem.
David Klyne refers us back to a post of three weeks ago which discusses the same thing and yet still no redress from HQ. Many comments have been made for several years about areas with a lack of sites, Essex and Suffolk come to mind. Yes the club announces a newly acquired site in Scarborough with a fanfare of news. That is very welcome but what exactly is it doing to find sites in other lesser served areas.
At the end of all of this it is us, the members, that suffer and as mentioned by the OP we may have no choice but to look at commercial sites and where does that leave the club.

Do stop repeating "get real", W&J. It’s not a nice thing to say to fellow members.
Who has said that one site at Scarborough is a brilliant achievement?
I’m eager to hear what happened when you lobbied the club to find new sites as I’m sure you will already have been proactive on this issue seeing you’re so keen for us to get behind the club.

How do you know the club isn’t doing it’s damnedest to find sites, Harry? They can’t simply open a cupboard and roll out a new site in any given area.
You could hardly expect them to reveal their plans and processes to us when competitors could well be eager to learn that information. That would not be good business practice. We've been told the club is always on the look out for further site opportunities and we must be content with that in the interests of commercial confidentiality.
Suffer, how do we suffer? If we don't like it, we simply leave the club and go elsewhere but that doesn’t equate to suffering in my book.

“How do you know the club isn’t doing it’s damnedest to find sites”
We don’t, I expect they are, but without any obvious success it gives cause for concern. How many club sites have closed recently or are known to be under threat. It is for exactly that reason and the lack of new ones that I suppose gives rise to the original question.
“Suffer, how do we suffer? If we don't like it, we simply leave the club and go elsewhere”
As members we have come to expect a level of service for which we are entitled. That level seems to be in decline. Less sites, less pitches and availability causes us all to suffer by not being able to take part in or pastime.
As a member of over 30 years I have been happy with the club and hope to remain that way but with decline in the number of sites, including cl’s, that is my fear. The members are the life blood of the club but what of the future. Less sites may mean less members. How long can that go on.
Just my opinion

Crystal Palace site would have been closed years ago but for the lease the club managed to secure as it is on prime real estate land, worth far more than any leisure organization could now afford, hence the cost of trying to find any site in any city or town with the pressure to find land for building houses
