Club pitch sizes
Whenever I book a club site pitch I book a pitch without an awning because we don't have an awning. On our last trip a few weeks ago I was told by a club member that I should always book an awning pitch because they are bigger. Is this true do you know? Are awning pitches bigger.

They aren't always bigger but often are. Sometimes it's the space between pitches that's bigger in order to maintain the required spacing.
Usually there are far more awning pitches than non-awning on a site. I book an awning pitch if I can as sometimes the non-awning pitches are in dark little corners where there isn't room for an awning pitch.

I generally book an awning pitch but first I will look at the site plan just to see where the non awning pitches are. This worked out well for us at Chatsworth before Christmas as we were able to use our satellite dish which on other pitches we might not have been able to.

There are some non-awning pitches that are a little on the small side.
on a trip to fairlight club site, I pitched on the peg as was instructed only to find that I didn’t have enough room to park next to the caravan with the aquaroll in place, without parking two wheels on the grass verge. The ground was wet and I didn’t want to sink and churn up the grass. On asking the warden if I could move the caravan over over a couple of feet, so that I could save the grass. I was told that he would have to come and inspect.
He suggested that I park on the other side as he didn’t want to encroach on the firebreak. The next pitch twice the size and empty.
In hindsight, this pitch was only good enough for a small camper.

I don't know if it applies to any other sites, but at Baltic Wharf you have to park on the (UK) door side. Not much of a problem in the colder months, but makes BBQ's difficult in the better weather. Very difficult to get an awning pitch though, as there are now not many available.

Exactly.
A thorough review of pitch pricing is required.
Non awning pitches and grass pitches should clearly be cheaper than a pukka full size hardstanding.......
Except on those sites where the non awning pitches are the best pitches of course, two sites spring to mind immediately, so leave them out of the review....

BW is pretty well unique in the network as its fundamentally a city 'aire' that just happens to have a shower block....
Ots right in an expensive city, space is at a premium in an effort to get as many members in site as possible.
IMHO, they shouldn't have any awning pitches and they should be as small as is legally allowed to maximise this particular facility.
rest assured, there's more space here than many a French city aire. But this doesn't stop tourists hetting in close to the city action.
it will be a real shame when it's gone....I love it....it does exactly what it should be doing....allowing members easy access to a great city.
lets not try and make it something it isn't......a campsite...

We have managed to get an awning pitch a couple of times at BW, both times in the winter where we didn't use the awning!!! Last minute availability so happy to get the pitch.
In the summer we have put the sun canopy out, attached to the car. Or as last summer for the balloon fiesta, parked the car just down the road in order to entertain family with a BBQ on a non awning pitch.
The few awning pitches are predominantly occupied by motorhomes with no accompanying vehicle on our many visits.
Perhaps it would be an idea to have caravan awning pitches to enable all members equal opportunity to use an awning as all pitches can take a unit with awning as MH. Expect to get flamed, but if these things are not discussed.
Just been at BW this weekend, again only booked last saturday, arrived very late friday due to horrendous traffic. But as always Christian & Anthony the wardens did a great job of allocating pitches for the late arrivers that fitted the unit. Ours is rather long, so some pitches are not accessible for us. Those guys run an excellent ship in how they manage things.
Flexibility is key.
