Engine re-mapping

You, however, seem not to have told your insurer which is an extremely reckless thing to do. Believe me, if an insurance company was looking for a get out clause to avoid paying, they would discover the remapping with no trouble at all.
For small claims no inspection would be undertaken. But believe me, faced with a substantial claim an insurance company seeking ways to decline paying out on their own client's fault claim or even the other driver's 'no-fault' losses the insurance companies will have the vehicle inspectors crawling all over the vehicle to find any undeclared material fact to help them. In a 'minor' mechanical yet high value case the no-fault driver's legal people will obtain a vehicle inspection report as every scrap of information is usually presented to the Court to strengthen the claim of the no-fault injured party. If there was personal injury the compensation could easily be in six figures. Yes, very reckless.

Incidently...................>
Ford Kuga 2,0 tdci, front wheel drive.163bhp
Ford Kuga 2.0 tdci AWD 177bhp...........
Same engine, same displacement,
You can get the 163bhp mapped to 190bhp and the 177 to 210.
Just sayin

No. I was responding to the rather long post of lornalou 1.......
-------------------------------
How would an insurance company know you have had it remapped or do the insurance companies do a test on every car that's involved in every accident........
I wanted my vehicle remapped so I had it done and paid for it. if it damages my motor I have only myself to blame. there are many cynics out there that will question everything people do. everybody has a choice in life and should be left to there own devises and not be criticised for there choice. the OP asked a question and I answered it and its up to him if he takes/does what I have done.
I paid the money and I take the chance.

It was posted in another reply to the effect that '..how can I know if it has been mapped or not, I wouldn't know'.
Following an accident you should try telling that to your insurance company, or the Court. Ignorance is at best a very weak defence.
I visit CT less than once a fortnight and rarely contribute, only when I can be helpful as a result of some authority and first hand experience. No-one needs to take any notice (or offence).

It was pretty much backing up a point I made, One.
Incidentally, thanks for the heads up on the £10 p/a on your insurance. For such a small sum it’s not worth the risk of not telling them.

Hi LL, no one is questioning or criticizing your decision to remap your car.
TW and I just wanted some questions answering re MOT, insurance and warranty claims. These have now been answered to some extent.

Had my BMW X3 remapped from 177 bhp to 235 bhp plus 258lb/ft to 327lb/ft torque great increase in pulling power and acceleration.
Don't bother with a plug in get an ECU remap done on a rolling road.
My X3 passed it's mot no problems with emissions same as before the remap as for insurance its up to the individual, chance you take, never known a company check a cars ECU to contest a claim(I work in a car body shop with high powered remapped cars whose owners only get bottom book for there written off cars because they didn't notify insurance, spending all that money having a remap, wheels, etc.
Chance you take you can lose a lot of money, notify them I did.
A car can have just as many problems with or without a remap.
A remap gives your car the power and efficiency it should have that the manufacturers hold back until a new model comes out they use the same engine but increase the power a fraction that you get with a remap.
They can't keep building new engines every time

Cheers, One. Whatever the result, it clearly wasn't a failure.

Thanks for the info, Tuckton.
I disagree with your statement about insurance, though. It’s a requirement to tell the company and not a matter of choice.

In much the same way as you take the chance and pay the penalty for breaking any law.
Not for me, I'll stick to doing the right thing as Oneputt has. What's £10 a year versus a lifetime of paying the price?

He is my twopenneth, in a previous role I restricted the warranty on remapped cars to to exclude, power train, steering, suspension, brakes etc, basically once we found a car had been remapped, we only cover trim, body and paint.
its very easy for a manufacturer to see if a car has been remapped,we just plugged in a machine and bingo, every electronic item has a footprint and any tweaking leaves a date and time and different values.
this restriction was logged for all our dealer network to view and you would be surprised as how much it knocked off the part ex price.
in regards to insurance, I had many calls from various insurance companies as to wether a vehicle had been modified electronically.
so my take is you pays your many, takes your chance but don’t cry to all and sundry if it bites you on the ar5e

After market tuning and modifying of vehicles comes with responsibility, if you do not let your insurance company know there is the chance of the policy being declared invalid. If that is the case, where does another driver stand if you hit their car and you are at fault, you are illegal and irresponsible.
I had a Bluefin remap on a previous car, the Aisin gearbox (widely fitted on a lot of cars) had a max rating of 440Nm and my car as standard developed 420Nm. The auto gearbox module would not allow additional torque to be used and the mapping took that into account.
I wonder how many tuning maps/boxes allow for the transmission components when fitted.

Was this not the OP's Question ?, as to whether others disagree with the fitting of is up to the person concerned. Too many policing other drivers. the motorways are full of them in the outer lanes during average speed camera area's when there's bu99er all in the nearside lanes.

Yes, that was the OP's question, so why the rant?

Read the question again then Tinny.
He wasn't asking for the opinions of people that hadn't made this very worthwhile ( if done correctly ) modification to their vehicles.
I as stated have had this mod' on a Sorento after taking advice of many on the owners Forum, it certainly helped the engine run smoother and got rid of the injector rattle. I fitted one to my new Toyota Hilux finding although an excellent towcar it was not happy and stay in top gear ( auto ) at less than 70 mph when towing caravan. It will now cruise happily at 60 mph @ 1800 rpm in top gear all day. https://www.steinbauer.cc/gb/
Happy caravanning.

Does that preclude me from taking an interest and asking questions? Is there a new clause to that effect in the guidelines?
But I’m glad you're happy with your modification.

I sent an email to lunar about their motorhomes and the Renault engine as you can upgrade from 130ps to 145ps at a cost of £1299. here is the reply I received today.
The Renault 145ps engine upgrade is a remap by Renault of the same engine.
so even the manufacturers do it.

Did you really think they built different engines to achieve variations in the PS, LL?
