If going to Merrose Farm do'n't forget to supplies it's a long way back to a supermarket. Having said that it's a lovely site good walk down to Pendower beach. Good walks around St Anthony Head. Park up at St Just in Roseland walk down through the church yard then pick up the path around the creek to St Mawes.

We've used it several times, but in quieter parts of the year. It's in an excellent spot to access other places, the site is very good and you can walk to a pub and a garden centre for food. There's fuel and a busy local shop within walking distance. A safe cycle route nearby takes you through from Devoran to Portreath. Some road noise but a very well run site with good modern facilities. We use it to visit local gardens like Trelissick and Trebah but access to Falmouth and Truro is good, v busy local roads in the summer but at least it's central to all of the southwest of Cornwall and nearby coasts in various directions.

I can’t add to what Brue has said about Carnon Downs. We stayed there once some years back in winter and couldn't fault it.
Another site near Truro is this one. I suspect it will suffer from traffic noise but it’s quite close to the park & ride for getting into Truro where there is a train station and buses to everywhere.

Ha ha the wife just said why do we not stay at a couple of caravan sites down there.
The Truro site looks really nice too. I’ve sent a booking form via email to the Carnon Downs site so now looking for another site within Cornwall/Devon area.

You’re half way there.
Why not try somewhere around Dartmoor in Devon? The AS club site at Lydford is good for exploring the area around Tavistock, Princetown, Okehampton etc but I’ve not a clue about public transport.

If you come right across the top of Dartmoor you can stop overnight with a Motorhome (and eat and drink) at either of the two pubs in Princetown - the Plume of Feathers or the Prince of Wales. Both offer Motorhome stopovers.

We stayed there many a time back in the day, Cody. Remember the previous owners, too.
It's not too bad walking down to the beach but it’s one hell of a climb back up that hill.

Thanks Cody, looks a lovely site and great beach. As we are going to be at Carnon Downs Truro we were looking to move a little further North to see another part of Cornwall.

It's a very popular site, Doug, with stunning sea views and sunsets. Take a look at the site reviews.
People vacating the 'prime' pitches at the front are sometimes hassled by others waiting to grab the pitch.
Public transport? No idea, sorry. It's not that far from Bude and your earlier choice of Wooda Farm.

Every year for about 12 years in total we went to watergate bay . The c&cc site . Also next to a site called watergate bay . Amazing location . You can walk to the beach . Also Walking distance to Newquay about 2 or 3 miles . or there is a bus .
when we stopped going to this site we then started to go further to Godrevey cmc site near Hayle and a short drive or bus / train ride to st Ives . Again amazing location and walking distance to the beach .

Everywhere in school holidays is very busy in Cornwall.
Now we are on our own we go to Weymouth or just outside at Moreton . There is a station just outside the gates . Cmc “crossways “on one side and a c&cc the other. Trains take you to Dorchester , Poole , Weymouth, and wareham .

On our first caravan holiday in 2015 we did Trewethett Farm as the 3rd and last site. Watergate Bay was the 2nd site on a serviced grass pitch, that we prefer in the dry season.
The cream teas the wardens source are superb. 1 does 3 people easily. The fish & Chip van is great value and tasty, much better than Steins at Padstein.
We weren't bothered about partaking in the Trewhethett Tango, but did find the behaviours of the seasoned members jockeying for position amusing. Bit of an eye opener as our second CAMC site stay. Bookable pitches would negate that
The walk down to the nearest beach makes a full day out. Nearby Tintagel and Boscastle are accessible by bus from the main road by the site.
Ensure you follow the handbook directions, there are some narrow lanes in the area.

There are a whole range of options from basic bucket and chuck it site, to all singing all dancing. Google maps nearby caravan sites brings up a lot of details.
Some sites operate full week only bookings often Sat-Sat/ Sun-Sun or Weds-Weds so you may not get the flexibility you want.

After all your replies on camp sites I have booked the following for Cornwall and traveling too and from.
Royal Vale CMC, Hurn Lane CMC, Carnon Downs, Trewethett Farm CMC, Hortham Farm CL, Southport CMC.
There are so many caravan sites in the Cornwall area so I have taken notes of the sites you have all recommended for my future visits to Devon/Cornwall.
Thanks again and I’ll post some feedback after my holidays.

Dartline operate service 118 between Okehampton and Tavistock Monday to Saturday. Stop's at the war memorial not far from the site's gate.

First Bus operate service 95/96 between Bude and Wadebridge. You would have to check site info as to if there is a stop outside of the site.

Hi just an update on our current holiday in Cornwall.
First stop was Royal Vale camp site by Knutsford. Lovely site and ideal stopover just off the M6.
Second stop was Hurne Lane C&MC site. Another excellent site for a stopover off the M5 and also chip van on Saturdays 😀. Narrow road to park entrance but on departure when coming out the exit gate I turned left onto Hurne lane then right which was a lot better. Not sure if you can enter the site this way or not.
Third stop Carnon Downs caravan park. Site is spotless, toilet facilities excellent and great Motorhome service points the best I’ve seen. Bus stops to Truro or Falmouth just outside the park entrance. Oh and chip van, pizza van and pasties van on various nights 😃
M6 & M5 on our travels Fri & Sat was horrendous with traffic. Never seen any accidents or roadworks on the M5 so it must have been the sheer volume of traffic.
A30 was amazing great road and not too busy.
Move on to Trewethett Farm C&MC site at the weekend
Weather has not been too bad since we arrived on Sunday at Carnon Downs but it was torrential rain all the way here from Fri to Sunday.
