Hmmm,,that did'nt last long though !! Low cloud and heavy rain set in around mid-day.Sad scenes of Ramsgate beach on "Facebook" with starfish ,crabs etc all washed up by the storms .But not as bad as 'Hollyhead ' and North Wales coastline devastation.!!

Why would anyone possibly think you're mad?🚐😱
Most of our trip will also be ad hoc but we know roughly where we'd like to be so that I can send off for lots of brochures that will eventually take up residence on our ever bulging book shelves, just in case we ever get around to it.

I'm in Italy (not literally) at the moment trying to search for bus timetables in Vicenza!!! Found a campsite and a bus stop but can't find timings. People complain about the search facility on this website but if things are not readily available all search facilities are the same!

It's been dull and grey all day here but much warmer than it has been. I did sit out in the relaxer in the awning after lunch for a while. It was cool out there but not too cold. We did think of going shopping at Tesco but then realised that it's Sunday and Tesco will be closed from 4 p.m. so too late now!

Brue
I did get the forum up on her laptop and she did have a look. However I don't think she can get her mind round the idea of engaging in public about her condition. Happy to discuss face to face with people with the same problem. Thanks for the interest.

Gradually getting warmer up here, and it looks like all the water troughs in the buildings have eventually thawed. So a bit less work tonight; no buckets of water to cart.
We have been very lucky compared to farms farther north and in Wales etc. Huge drifts, buried sheep, snow blocked roads and milk poured away if the tanker couldn’t get through.
Our house is well ventilated (i.e. draughty), which is why I think we very very rarely get colds. It has its quirks as well. I was sitting at the desk when a small old nail fell down. Maybe the building is still settling. But this end of the house is about 450 years old.

No problems David.
When my Mum became ill I spent a lot of time on one of the related web sites for her declining years and just gleaned information from other people's posts without joining in. In fact I found a sort of mantra/how to respond list on there about coping with someone with memory loss etc which my sister and I say to each other when we get frustrated over anything and it has been a great help.
I do hope everything sorts itself for you both and you can go off confidently and enjoy Italy.

Good on you, OP, that's what it's there for. Hope you manage to sort out the trip.

We had some rain in the night and I was concerned that we'd have black ice, but it had warned up and the lying snow was soft. We did have a short but heavy snow shower just as I was packing up but it eventually turned to rain. It's been very and damp for the rest of the day, but a bit warmer and, now at York, virtually all of the snow had gone off the roads and pavements.

Having used up all the water in the onboard tank, we are back to using the Aquaroll once again. No problem, water flowing smoothly through caravan taps!

Would you trust a weather forecast from Nick O'Seer? Look how much rain they get in the emerald isle.

Most of the snow has now been washed away by todays rain, it makes a change from snow and sleet.
The local canal is still frozen though, this pic was taken a couple of days ago.

Glad you made it Nellie, most of our snow has gone today as well.
I need to consult with Nevers over getting a passport into Lancashire........
we have just bought tickets to go on footplate of Flying Scotsman at Rawtenstall! Wherever that is.........!

Consider yourself an honorary member TDA.
As I'm sure you know, that is a very rural area and Winfields is not far away in nearby Haslingden. Just the place if you need new walking footwear.
PS.
I'm in need of some new boots myself.
BTW, I saw the Flying Scotsman lots of times as a young lad. We lived very close to the main line.

Phew, passports stamped then Nevers! I have to confess, the geography of most of Lancashire is a bit of a mystery to me, however, that is going to be rectified. We are booked in at York next week, but just been looking at Burrs Country Park. Anyone know what it is like for dog walking? Will only be for early morning and evening walkies, they will be out with us in MH in day walking elsewhere. Can see lots of conservation areas, does this mean no dogs, or dogs on leads?

Can't help much re Burrs Park, we only stayed for a couple of nights about ten years ago. Plenty of dog walking close to site but I can't remember if they need to be on a lead or not. Sorry not much help.

There's a river walk, but it could be rather muddy after all this snow. There are also hard paths round the old mill complex from what I remember.

We stayed at Burrs in January ttda, lots of walks although very wet when we were there. Plenty of places to let them off the lead in the country park. Don't forget to visit Bury Market.

I think that the market was the main reason the OH wanted to go to Burrs.

Nobody in their right mind would try to take a caravan to the far north of Norway/Sweden/Finland, or indeed any where in Scandinavia, in winter!
For a start many of the roads could be closed, you would need snow tyres on ALL wheels, and the campsites would not be open anyway.
Only a few ski resort sites in the not so remote parts are open in winter, and people do not tow their vans there, they site them for the season and have wooden "awnings", an ordinary awning would collapse under the weight of the snow.
Germany and Austria could be an option, no idea about Switzerland, but again you would need snow tyres and a LOT of gas, electricity is metered and very expensive.
These cold places are better visited with caravan in summer when it is not cold. Most people would book a ski resort or small hotel in winter.

We had more snow this morning, but by afternoon it had turned to rain, and a significant thaw seems underway.
Call from DD asking us to bring them milk, bread and eggs when we came for lunch. Bread and eggs were in Lidl, and milk we got at Aldi, all shops very busy.
After lunch DD and OH sorted baby clothes while I fixed the knob onto her new bi-fold door, then I had another look at her boiler, which had started to drip again, while they made shortbread.
Found another loose screw connection where the condensate pipe exits the sealed part of the boiler so have tightened that and now hoping it is fixed. Only time will tell.
Much less snow when we got home than there had been earlier, might even be able to get the Smart car off the drive tomorrow

I think there's a ski resort in Scotland and a site nearby that is open all year. I would think conditions there could be close to Arctic type weather to get enough snow on the mounntains for that! A caravan like ours with an onboard tank should be able to cope with such conditions. It is designed for all the year round usage.

Nice temperature but like you say a bit too far, SteveL. Also, we can't cross the border out of UK as the Home Office still has my wife's passport because of her UK visa application. It has taken nearly four months so far and is still under consideration.

Yes you could say that perhaps it is one of the inconveniences of caravanning, especially when the rain is pattering on the roof at night whilst you're trying to sleep, Metheven!

Doesn't he like skiing then, trellis?
