What are you all up to

Takes all sorts Malc, not quite a tropical paradise just Lanzarote,
where the temp is around 22-23c at the moment so just about perfect for relaxing in, going for a walk or cycle, even a nice boat trip or two.
We love our 3 weeks there every year it sets us up for the rest of the year.
I'm glad that you like living in your caravan and sitting in your awning, I do to but not in winter thank you very much, not unless I'm in the South of Spain/Portugal.
I must admit the delay has been a tad annoying but first time in over 10 years so can't complain.
Not planning on spending much time queuing anywhere as TC have given us priority tickets and other nice extras as a goodwill gesture.
The whole experience of flying doesn't bother either of us as we enjoy it, nice wander round the shops have something to eat and a drink, before you know it you are boarding your flight, (first as we have priority). The flight is only 4 hrs 15 mins and the seats are not cramped (not for us anyway) I've never experienced a table digging into my stomach but then again I'm not large
We both enjoy flying, time to read a book, chat to your neighbours, read a magazine and choose your next holiday. Then its time to have a meal and drink, usually followed by a snooze for the OH.
Before you know it its time to get ready for landing, pick up our rental car and drive the short 20 mins to our apartment. Great resort and great people looking after us there. Just like a home form home but with nicer weather.
I've said it to you before Malc, you live in the South of England where your weather is usually mild in winter and sunny and hot for the rest of the year. We live in a completely different environment, stunningly beautiful and not crowded but having lived for 20 years in Europe I do like the outdoor life and of course the sun.
Like your wife I rarely sit around doing nothing, so 4 hrs on a flight is heaven

We went shopping despite the weather. Nice bit of fillet steak from the butcher, cooked rare and some chips for dinner tonight. Looking at Pizza huts prices, costs are about the same. Whilst I do like pizza, we usually stick to Waitrose vegi ones, or I make my own. Personally a pizza that has been kept hot for probably 20 minutes is something I would rather avoid.

Took a drive into town after lunch, roads all clear and looks to be melting. Lots of snow banked up at the sides obviously but at least we were on tarmac
Couldn't believe it the roads were very quiet for a Saturday afternoon, then we got to Asda car park, wow! only time I've ever seen it like it was today is at Christmas. Car park full, shop full, all check outs open and busy, no bread at all other than what the in store bakery was managing to do (very little of that) there was still milk but not a lot.
Brue, glad you got home safe, hope the house is fine and not too cold. Had to look up Punxsutawney Phil
Thanks for the good wishes Milothedog and Trellis will try hard to enjoy
I'm sure you will be enjoying some nice weather soon

Did venture out eventually but only as far as our local pub 😉roads were very quiet, snow has been melting all day so everywhere is very wet.😣
Tammygirl hope you get away tomorrow ok, have a lovely holiday.
Brue, pleased to hear you made it home, have you got your boiler working?
0 -
Thanks Helen and others. Yes , we got our boiler working but we've only just taken our coats off! Still not sure what went wrong but hoping it will be ok. British Gas left messages and texts which was helpful but seeing the snow here we knew no-one could have got here. For the first time ever our milkman had not left milk, sad to think milk has had to be poured away locally, no wonder there was a shortage in some places. Things improving now but I think there'll be some floods.

Been sitting at the computer all afternoon "planning" our trip to Germany and the Netherlands this Spring/Summer. Been to lots of lovely places and have Plans A,B or C roughly mapped out, depending on weather or if we decide we like/don't like a particular site/area. It's been fun
.
Glad you made it home Brue and fingers crossed for TG for tomorrow.

When my father was alive David I used to always carry a pack of those in the car as he was type 1 diabetic.
I have not been treated for diabetes for just under two years as 4 monthly blood tests have shown no need. I had one in November and that was fine also. Then I had one late February as I was due a tablet revue for blood pressure. That showed elevated blood sugar and so I am onto a single tablet for the next few months

There most certainly is Cariadon ==>
https://www.diabetes.org.uk the Diabetes UK headliners !!
If anybody wants to see if they could or should have access to blood test meters and test strips go to the "advocacy pack" pages for advice & guidance. They even tell you on those pages how to challenge any unfavourable decisions.
As far as Type 2 diabetics using insulin are concerned you MUST tell DVLC ( ?? DVLA ??) and they will give guidance w r t driving and licencing.
Specifically you should ensure blood sugars are above a certain level before driving, then check every two ( 2 ) hours.
These checks, of course, can only be performed if you have a meter & test strips !

It's been a relatively warmer day today, so much so that some of the snow has started to melt aalthouth there was the odd flake of snow. Had a shortish walk this morning before driving over to Morrisons to fill up with fuel for our drive down to York tomorrow (hopefully). After lunch in the van I then took Flyte along the river path as far as the HM Bark Endeavour and back. Spotted a seal in the river upstream of the Barrage....wonder how it got there?

See my post a few scrolls up ^^
I regularly tell folks that a few pills or test strips don't cost half as much as a spell in hospital recovering from a Hypo i.e. very very low sugars, and even less than a foot or leg amputation & the care that follows.
Incidentally, Alan, one of the visible signs of somebody going 'hypo' is --> they can appear to be rather tipsy, if not down right drunk ! Any feelings of woozyness and/or confusion take any of the glucose tabs or syrupy drinks available & DON'T drive for 30 mins to give the body time to absorb it.

Well folks that's it for me tonight, going to have an early night as we are up at 4 am
hopefully the next time I post I will be sat in a pair of shorts and T shirt, or even in swimwear
sorry couldn't resist.
Take care everyone hope it all starts to clear up soon and doesn't cause any problems with floods.
Thanks to all for the good wishes.

I recall a work colleague who was a type 1 diabetic being like that just on one occasion. As the office was only 2 miles from work I took him there. Quick test, some glucose drink and, under doctors advice, a pint of beer on the way back before he retested and injected if needed.

The onboard tank certainly became useful for us in the recent below freezing temperatures and this size caravan gives us a lot more space to live in than a smaller one would, including more space in the awning as well.

When in the Netherlands a couple of years ago I went to the assistance of a man who collapsed in the street, his family of 3 people didn't have a clue, 2 were dancing around in panic and the third was trying to force a biscuit down his throat. The guy was on his back swallowing his tongue. One of them tried to stop me doing anything until they saw how angry I was becoming. Put him in the recovery position made sure his tongue not interfering with air ways, ask someone to get a can of coke, few dribbles and he started to stir. When I said they should see a doctor (he had been unconscious) they were adamant he didn't need one. At that point we left without a word of thanks. A lady who worked for me had type 1 and told me that her immediate family, including 6 year old daughter, were taught what to do if mummy had a problem.

I ended up having to do an extra two hours at work last night. I was supposed to finish at 8 p.m. but they asked me to stay until 10 p.m. It was very busy from the moment I started to the moment I finished.
I got my rota for next week. Today is a day off and so is Monday and Tuesday. So three consecutive days off. It's like a mini holiday! I'll be working Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings though.

Hope David K's wife Margaret can sort the problem of needles and test strips asap, I can imagine it is stressful not having enough stocks to keep going. I read ABM's post with interest.
Even if Margaret isn't too keen on forums I think DiabetesUK is a very useful place to look.
