hi,

we are thinking of going to a show at the Manchester arena, would anyone be able to advise of a site near by? We have a Swift Bolero Motorhome and would like somewhere that we could catch a train or bus or even walk. Many thanks guys.

    Hi Ceasar.

I don't know where you're travelling from or how well you know the area but I'd recommend Burr's Country Park at Bury which has the usual good clean facilities and the added attraction of the East Lancashire Railway track along the perimeter.  It would be a journey by public transport into Manchester.  I can't think of a site nearer to the city centre and certainly not within walking distance.

The site is about a 20 minute walk into Bury town centre or, if required, a taxi ride, where you'll find good transport links to Manchester City Centre.

Adjacent to the site is a country park and a public house which serves good food.  Tesco supermarket is also within walking distance.

I'd not want to walk back from Tesco with any shopping though 😉

Agree with Burrs CP. Walk into Bury and catch the tram straight into Manchester. Not sure if you would have to change for the arena or not. The fare was around £4 return

Go to Google maps.....put in Manchester Arena, click 'get directions' will plan route from your location by default.

change starting location to Burrs Country Park caravan site, get directions.....click 'bus' symbol to get public transport directions rather than car.

it lists, by time, the next X routes.....fastest is just under an hour

starts with 15m walk to Garside Hey Road, bus to Bury, change for the tram to Manchester Victoria and then you're virtually there.....

google maps is an amazing tool that can link timetables from many sources to provide joined up routes with bus numbers and times, and so simple to use.....try it....

sorry, I could post the results of its search, but you'll get the ideasmile

ps....yes you can obviously walk to Bury....just under two miles and just over half an hour....probaly depends on the weather....

If you don't mind using your own facilities we have used Whitecroft Farm CL at Strines, the station is only 5 minutes walk away and trains go to Manchester. CL has some hard standing and EHU.

I agree about Burrs but if I was going to an event in Manchester I think I would take a taxi to Bury and back. That way you don't have to worry about finding bus stops, although it's not far away, and worrying about times. The site will have information  on local taxi firms. If we are just having a general day off site we will use a bus if available but if we have something specific in mind we use a taxi and they are often not as expensive as you imagine they might be.

I'd certainly want to take a taxi back from Bury to the site after the event.

I know Manchester quite well & Burrs Club site is the best option. Get a tram get off at Victoria which is the adjoining building to the Arena . From the Victoria tram stop to the Arena is a 30 second walk literally. Loads of bars & restaurants in Manchester within minutes walk of the Arena.

This makes good sense, tram back to Bury then taxi to Burrs. But the Arena can hold 20,000 people so you may have to queue for a tram back.
