There were plenty of other staff there including other drivers and none of them complained of feeling unsafe. In fact it was probably safer than normal because of less traffic on the road!

Some of them are too busy to have time to do that, Tammygirl! There is mutual respect in this situation in that they need the service and I need the money! Life still goes on regardless of the weather and bills still have to be paid.

Glad to see everyone is warm and safe. Have been laid low with sinusitis, have never been so ill with it before.
Last thing I would want to eat in this cold would be an unhealthy Pizza, would rather have soups, stews, curries or any other hot nourishing food, but as long as people order Pizza's Malcolm is safe in a job.
OH has been out getting milk and fresh veg and meat, and said the local shops are busier this morning than he has seen before, which is good news, but will they be there next week, when the roads are clearer, if not, maybe next years there won't be any shops left. Rant over.

No Malcolm not to busy just disorganised, I have little to no patience with folk who cannot plan ahead, then expect others to come to their aid.
Ordering a meal for home delivery is not only time consuming but expensive and in my case would be a sheer luxury. For the cost of 1 pizza you can easily feed a family of 5 or more, you only have to watch the Lidl advert to see that.
Home deliveries pander to those who have too much money.

I totally agree with you there Tammygirl. My son does food deliveries from various restaurants and food outlets and the price some people are willing to pay for a pizza or burger is grazy. The only time we ever order food is on a Saturday for Indian takeaway....everything else is home cooked.

I'll be off out to ASDA & M & S shortly, for a gentle shop !! Crewe is clear, only had a couple of inches of snow but I do have the pleasure of eight ( 8 ) bird bath sized discs of ice !
Don't really care anyway 'cos it's about 15*c warmer since half an hour ago
'cos Brian's just down-loaded his Tickets etc for the G D S F in late August

Household jobs now done, OH out clearing snow off the paths and neighbours paths (elderly)
Next a spot of lunch then I think we will venture into see my sister.
The sky is light for the first time in 2 days, would like to think that's the end of the snow but the nice man on TV said no, we still have more to come later this evening
temp seems to be hovering around 0c so hopefully a bit of thaw will get underway before tonight.
At lower levels it should stay like that but higher levels will get a frost. The wind isn't as bad as its been so again hopefully no more drifting snow on the route to the airport.
We've been going to Lanzarote at this time of year for over 10 years and never had a problem like this so can't moan about it (I'm not moaning honest)
Great respect to all the emergency services and others, like 4 x 4 drivers who have been out helping where need.

David, my wife Yvonne is type 2 and our lha only allow her 2 test strips per week, which is about as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike. Yes I know we can purchase more off the internet, but I object strongly to that, especially when the NHS in general hand out contraceptive materials like confetti for something which is a lifestyle choice. Sorry rant over .
Steve.

We are above zero today, just. Some interesting icicles hanging from the gutter, but now dripping.
Looks like Lidl are open now as there are cars coming and going. We may even have had a gritter here earlier as the track we all cleared on the road is totally down to the tarmac now.
I have cleared the 15 inches of snow off the Touareg so we are going out this afternoon for milk and fresh veg etc.
SIL has dug out his car so DD has dispatched him for supplies. Looks like things are slowly improving up here. Off to start the breadmaker now, then have some lunch.

Thanks to the 'thaw' and the pipe i reconnected ,,,"YAY" ,i have water and heating again ,
.Went to the B/yd this morning ,not much doing so home early.Deep snow drift's up there though wind off the marshes.Marked up some fence poles with spray paint adjacent to the road humps which were obliterated with snow, so people can adjust their speeds accordingly.
Had a call from one of my suppliers of tarmac planings,to say we could be getting six loads of 20 ton tippers on Monday night, between 20-00 and midnight (subject to the weather) ,so when and as appropriate we can do our road/track repairs.HoooRAY !!

Have just got back from a "walk" with Rosa, well i had a very short walk, as just down the road from us is a big field on the side of the valley which was full of about 100 people and their off spring with sledges which is one of Rosas games she waits at the top until a sledge and occupants set off ,then races them to the bottom of the hill, then dashes back up to wait the next one setting off and so it goes on ,i just have to stand and watch

Agreed , but to make matters worse, dispite regularly telling our GP the surgery insists on issuing Yvonne with 200 needles per 100 test strips .! I know she's thick skinned😁 but what a waste of money , as the pharmacy won't take them back .

Your story makes me feel relieved that I'm not having to make the journey to an airport to board a plane and head off for some winter sun, Tammygirl. I much rather stay here in my caravan. I get enough heat and winter sun in my awning, when the sun does come out. It came out for a while today and it was so hot in the awning that I had to open up the doors to let some cool air in. Even when the temperatures are subzero outside it can get quite hot in the awning when the sun comes out.
By all means go off to some tropical paradise if you must and if you can endure delays, time queueing in security, hanging around in departure lounges and sitting for hours on end in a cramped seat on a plane with the table digging into your stomach as you eat! Not my idea of fun. Better off here in our caravan on the club site in Brighton in good old Blighty!

There is a view that if you have type 2 diabetes controlled by diet or medication (not insulin) and no history of hypo's (I think unusual with type 2?) the only point of testing is if you are prepared to do something about it, by for example, changing your diet. At least that is what the Diabetic Nurse told Margaret. The regular blood tests at the surgery are much more accurate at pin pointing the general level of blood sugar over a period of time. Unfortunately as soon as you start taking insulin self blood tests are essential. If you are on a settled regime of pills I suspect regular daily blood tests, except perhaps in the early days of taking the medication, don't really help the situation. What really annoys Margaret is the constant noise in the media about diabetes suggesting that it's all to do with being overweight and lifestyle choices. Margaret has never been overweight and it seems as though diabetes runs in her family as two of her brothers have it and other relations on her mother's side as well.

Have you checked if there's a diabetes UK or similar named web page or FB page where somebody on there can help. I have found one for my health condition and the help and support I have received from their web page and even more from a FB forum page.

When taking medication to help promote insulin production and to help the body make use of that insulin I have a couple of times had a problem with low blood sugar.
As I usually have a couple of rounds of toast early on, if we were moving to a site such that arrival was after 1pm' I usually kept a snack in the car.
On one occasion I was up at home around 6am and for some reason forgot about breakfast. I had a dental appointment for 12.15 and a half hour drive and intended on leaving lunch until my return. The dental appointment was delayed. I had a checkup and a small filling needed. The dentist was about to do it but then asked if I felt OK. I didn't and was not with it. The dentist walked in front of me downstairs to reception where I was given a glucose drink. 30 mins later I felt OK to drive.

Managed to get to the shops OK, but not a drop of fresh milk anywhere, tried 4 different places. In the end we bought a litre of UHT skimmed milk which will be OK for our tea, and I can also use it for my porridge tomorrow.
OH does not really like the UHT milk, but if she wants cornflakes tomorrow she will have to bear it! We are going down to DD's tomorrow, so we may find some in the shops near her house.
The fruit and veg aisles in ASDA were virtually empty, M&S shelves were pretty bare too, Waitrose was slightly better, so between them we got some salad stuff and some other veg.
The roads are littered with parked cars which presumably got stuck, making many of them only single track. Quite why these drivers have not come back for them by now is a mystery, they are really making life difficult for other drivers, and for the council workers who are trying to clear the snow. There is even one parked with its rear end sticking out onto the main road here!
The snow is slowly melting or turning to slush, so not pleasant for walking around in down in the village. It will be treacherous if it freezes up again.
Both ASDA and Waitrose carparks had been semi cleared, with huge piles of snow occupying about a third of the spaces, so at least it was dry underfoot there.
