What are you all up to

Sorry to hear that your boiler at home has packed up Brue, it has been very windy, together with the snow, hopefully it will only be a temporary power cut.
We haven't had much snow although it has been bitterly cold.
Tammygirl sorry about your cancelled flight, hope you can get away on Sunday.

We had roast beef with yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, veg and gravy for lunch with English mustard and horseradish sauce. For evening meal, noodle soup.

I wonder how many are stuck on the roads out there at the moment, bet there's a few. If the conditions don't improve a bit we'll be here for a while longer.

Hope that you manage to get away on Sunday, TG.
Perhaps BG will get the power back on and you'll have a working boiler when you get home. Are you heading home tomorrow or staying longer at York, brue? What are the roads like around the city?

Nice big ( ? ) Lamb leg steak and spuds 'n veg then a nice session watching Indoor Athletics Championships, pretended its not indoors in winter but outdoors in high summer, so finished off with a nice choc ice
Most of Brian's meals are rated 'nice'
-- the whole point of cooking for oneself !!
All right, all right I have to admit I didn't really cook the choc ice

We still have our canoe in garage......bit of rope tied to back of Jeep, could be a great way of getting around! Mind you, dogs tend to abandon ship at all the wrong moments!

Perhaps they are all wearing these snow socks. They have been using them on our local ambulances to get them out of trouble.

Good luck for your next departure TG.
Unfortunately we have empty homes either side of us (one is a holiday home.) Then we have neighbours who are not too handy with anything and also our two very elderly neighbours. Our daughter is snowed in just now so we will just have to grit our teeth for all eventualities on return.
Improvement on site today we can pump water on board! Hooray.

Thank you.
The milking parlour was OK this morning, and OH and son are off out now to check all the water troughs. Whilst still very cold it's slightly better (only -8 windchill).
We're lucky compared to farmers north of us who are having to cope with huge drifts.
The kitchen is warm as we leave the stove in all night. But oh, our bedroom - we have a clock with a temperature gauge, and 6 degrees is decidedly chilly! A panel heater raised it to the dizzy heights of 11.
Thank God for sheep wool duvets. If it's good enough for sheep, it's good enough for us!.

Just a degree warmer (ha ha, it's absolutely freezing still) helped defrost our water this morning. Pleased to hear things went a bit better Goldie. Those woolly Herdys look tough enough outside but I can remember a chilly bedroom in an old place we had, waking up with a very cold nose!
We like our wool duvet too..

Glad your coping Goldie, but then we know farming stock are tough.
Just moved half a ton of logs closer to the house as we are forecast to have more snow this evening. Just squaring away then going to take some essential supplies to Mrs Ones sister and BIL. Still got high winds here with a -14 windchill. Must get on so stay safe all

We're all fine. Just keeping an eye on the road conditions down the A19.

Brue, how are the roads round York at the moment?

Still getting the fluffy stuff here this morning, sky still full of it but nothing like yesterday. Wind still blowing but not as strong or gusty as it was.
Will need to venture outside today as heavy snow hanging off the house and utility room gutters so will need to knock some off before it freezes and we have damaged gutters.
It would appear the main roads are now open but many of the minor ones are still having lots of problems.
Glasgow Airport now open they say its the worst and deepest snow fall they have had in the history of the airport.
Temperature seems to up around 0c today but haven't been out yet so couldn't confirm that. Seems you guys further south are getting it much colder than us.
Son who lives on the Pennines has made it into work today but wife and children still at home due to schools being closed.
Typing this while still waiting for Thomas Cook to answer there 'Incident' line, they must be inundated with calls given the number of flights cancelled.
Edit: OH now speaking to agent

Brue, hope things at home are not to bad when you get there, are you intending to travel south soon?
DSB & Nellie sit tight and enjoy it will soon be over
not worth taking chances towing in this.
JV, glad to see you are managing to get out and about with the dog again, take care no more falls or slips.
Anyone heard anything from MillieH? haven't seen her post for awhile.

Hmmmm,
. Didn't think they were good for prolonged use SteveL.
When I worked with a boss in Hanley I regularly went to see him going in through Tunstall & Burslem & their Fire Brigade never used the "Twos" from start of winter to the end 'cos they had fitted chains 24/7** . You could hear them coming from half a mile away
and any potholes had the edges neatly levelled .
** that F/station covered the truly rural areas up towards Leek as well as the north of the City.
EDIT Ah I see now from your link SteveL-- Only for VERY short term use on tarmac

Just had a video link from British Gas "how to defrost condensate pipe"...pity we can't do it remotely! We still don't know if that is the problem but at least it might help when we get back.
I am spending too much time in the van today! Went to the park with the dog, the pool is nearly frozen over, the Terns are waddling on the ice. Staying in now, keep warm everyone.

Phew! at last I can now sit back and relax
Thomas Cook have confirmed that our OUT bound flight of Thur/Fri has now been refunded and our IN bound still stands (not cancelled)
Wouldn't normally be bothered if we had to stay longer in Lanzarote
but on this occasion we have to be back for OH's Op the next day.
Extra bonus is the refund for cancelled flight is more than the amount we have paid for Sunday's flight
we have lost 3 days of the 21 day holiday but that's not anyone's fault so can't moan. Feel really sorry for those who were just going for 1 week.
While some of the information has been a long time in coming given the amount of cancelled and delayed flights I think TC have not done bad
Over the last couple of days we have learnt a lot of how to keep up to date with things via social media, really is a new age and it works a treat.
Slightly earlier flight out on Sunday so an even earlier start from here.
