First ever Scotland trip
Hi I am planning a trip from Hull, East Yorkshire to spend a few days at either the Silverbank or Braemer sites in Aberdeenshire. We will have a young dog with us so want to break up the journey each way so i'm looking for bit of advise re:doing it with a stop over somewhere mid-route and any suggestions for the best route to take and any reccomendations of good sites to stop on route. Cheers Roy

Over to the A1, then all the way to Edinburgh. Stop off at Berwick or Edinb.club sites, or if you don't need sites with facilities then Paxton House, small commercial site near Berwick or East Fortune Cl near North Berwick. Then over Forty Bridge, motorway to Perth and coastal route to Silverbank.

Hi Roycart, Both those sites have interesting places around. Silverbank (a CMC site), is great for visiting National trust and Historic Scotland properties. Whereas Braemar, (a commercial site), will better suit those who like walking, (particularly with a dog) amid stunning scenery. Both sites are within the towns themselves.
A perfect stopover would be the CMC site at Yellowcraigs where the dunes and the beach makes for ideal dog walking.----Hope this helps.

I would imagine that Yellowcraig should be about half way and could be the best stopover. It is a nice site and we like it. You are virtually on the beach with good views across Firth of Forth from the beach and plenty of room for the dog to run. If you are interested in planes then stop a day and visit the aircraft museum at East Fortune for a walk on Concord.
Berwick Seaview is probably a bit early and Edinburgh might be a bit more of a trek through the city but if you have a couple of days to spare then it is a good choice. After that I am not sure there is anything useful other than the odd CL for some distance but I have not visited these.

I know both Silverbank and Braemar quite well and recommend both.
On the way up, I recommend Berwick or if you bypass Edinburgh, the CMC site at Markinch is great. For Edinburgh, I always use the commercial Linwater site near East Calder.
Depending on when you travel, you may be lucky to find the Aberdeen bypass is open and you can avoid the city. From the south you can avoid it by turning left on the B9077 and crossing the river at Peterculter.
