I've just bought a new caravan which has an Alko ATC system. My tow vehicle has a 7 pin socket but the caravan has 13 pin .

I hooked up with an adaptor but the alko didn't work . I have found out that there is actually a problem with my tow vehicle socket as the indicators (at least, maybe more) are not working . I've booked in for Tuesday to have the electrics fixed but I want to be sure the alko will work with 7 pin and an adaptor .Or shall I just get it converted to 13 pin while it's in there?

Many thanks

    Hi

do you have the grey socket on your car. If yes and the adaptor is converting both sockets to on 13 pin then yes it will work.  If you only have a black socket on the car then it wont work. The ATC needs a 12 volt supply to work

Get it converted to a 13 pin, as above ATC won't work with your one socket.

if the caravan has the 13 pin socket which I imagine it will have I would get the car converted when it is in.

well you will need to make sure the extra wiring is there too to power the 12V for the ATC. Called something like a supplemental harness.

With the old two socket system the black and grey sockets did different things and had different wiring, the black did the lights and indicators while the grey supplied 12V to charge to the caravan battery and run the fridge when the ignition was switched (I believe) and now powers the ATC, the newer 13 pin just combined the wiring into one sockets, but if you only have a black socket the wiring for the grey socket may not be there.

that;s right you will need a battery live feed and an ignition feed i think it has a couple of earths as well. I'm sure they will know what you need when you take it in
