Gas bottle thief
Just back from a weekend away. Caravan parked up and secured on well lit driveway overnight, discovered this morningthat the side gas locker (Bailey) door ripped off and gas bottle ( calorlite) stolen.
They cut through the gas bottle strap, but luckily I have a stainless steel gas hose with a hand wheel, so this survived.
Door is a right off.
No other attempt on caravan.
I drove around the corner(next road) to a fellow caravan and discovered that an attempt had been made on their one as well.
London west Kent area.

A horrible thing to happen...........
The irony is that that with the new lightweight cylinders coming later this year, the calor lites are virtually obsolete anyway....
It will probably appear on Ebay soon, but little chance of proving it's yours.....

There was little gas in it anyway, it’s more the damage that they’ve done.
I'm just glad that I don’t have a cover on it, or I’d left the towing cover on and they’d cut through to find the there isn’t a gas locker on the front.
I guess that they they saw the gas cylinder sign on the side door ( or knew that bailey now put the cylinders in the side), either way, it’s only one door and frame to replace?
I know that it’ll cost me a new hire agreement as well as the cylinder,
But, It’s just the P*** off factor!🤬

John. Why don't you ask if someone from your neck of the woods has a spare empty calor gas cylinder you can have? Plenty of people have gone over to refillable cylinders and have calor cylinders they no longer use. It would be a pity to give calor another hire agreement fee in the circumstances.

you could try your local recycle centre to see if they have any awaiting disposal worth a try

Dozens for sale on ebay, just buy one and then take it to your local calor outlet for a full one, no paperwork needed...

You live in the wrong part of the country!!!!where I live the only reason to lock our houses is for the insurance cover! The south east has become a major "stay away" for me.Unfortunately electrocution is against the thieves human rights!!!!

When at home our plugs into the house alarm, P.I.R. in the Van & Gas box & Door contact on the battery box, so anyone opens a door they will wake the dead up

New door ordered and delivered from bailey within two days £68.
To add insult to injury, being a good citizen I reported it to the police
Dailed 101 and got a recorded message to report it on line
Did this, got a text message about two hours later giving me a crime reference number. I have no intentions of claiming on insurance as it’s below excess threshold and no point messing up no claims.
Also, the text started that as I had no cctv evidence, an eye whittness and the criminal didn’t leave anything behind for DNA, that no further action would be taken.
Two days after this, I received a email saying the same thing and after looking into the case it has been decided to close the case. It might be reopened if further information comes to light.
Also thanked me for providing localised information so that they now have a clearer picture of the crime in my area.... REALLY!
To add more insult, on checking my mobile bill, the call coast me £0:13
Both reply’s were generic computer messages. No personal touch, makes you wonder why you bother.
Noticed the local neighbourhood watch bobby ride past on his bike on Friday. Shame he couldn’t stop and have a chat.

Yes, that's a good idea buy one off e-bay then the seller can go out and nick another?

A very distinct possibility Steve, yes......
And the same can be said for almost anything secondhand........
But a thriving secondhand market exists for many things.....
