What's the difference
Can someone please tell me why a sun canopy with no sides or front or means of fitting any ,
Can be classed as an awning and be charged as one.to me an awning is an extra room that can be used 24 / 7 and a sun canopy is for shade only please can someone clear this matter up for me
Thanks p gec

Surely it's entirely up to the campsite in question to charge what they want to and your option is to refuse and go elsewhere. You have to look at the overall cost of a pitch when comparing sites.

I assume this is not a club site?

Whilst the policies of non-club sites cannot be realistically commented on, it would help if there was definitive clarification on 'wind-out' awnings usage, particularly in relation to MH's on non-awning pitches, where there is no tow vehicle.

Did you question it or just pay. Morris Leisure showed a charge for awnings on there on line booking. However, when I phoned the site and questioned it, they said it only applied to an awning with sides and pull outs were not charged for.
The pitch size did not vary, awning or not, so it was just a different way of charging. As long as it's upfront and clearly stated I don't see it as a problem. You either accept the overall cost asked or you don't.

We use a canopy in summer and almost all CLs that charge for an awning ignore the charge for my canopy. Most independent sites ignore it as well. You will always get the odd stickler who'll want to treat it as if it's a full double sized monstrosity.

I'm sorry, but am I missing something. I assumed a canopy was a canopy and an awning was an awning, so if a site listed an awning as an extra charge I would not expect that to apply to a canopy unless specified. I am a relative newbie to caravanning so please excuse my ignorance.

It is really down to terminology. Whilst our Fiamma Caravanstore is a roll out canopy, the people who make it call it an awning. So although in most cases sites would not include them in an awning charge, it is perhaps best to ask and avoid potential problems.

Cyber, JillwithaJay posted this a couple of years ago, nothing has changed since then as far as I am aware. We have never had a problem using our canopy on a non awning pitch.
Hope this helps.

"Standard Pitch Without Awning
Members cannot use awnings of any shape or size (including porch awnings) on this pitch type.
Motorhomes can use a wind-out sun shade as long as a 3 metre fire separation is maintained.
Members may be asked to wind the canopy in sufficiently to achieve the 3 metre gap."
There'd be no problem with your sun canopy on a 'Standard Pitch with Awning'.
