what is happening to the crystal palace site all mention of it has gone from the news page. is it still waiting for the local council to extend the lease to the club or has it gone out to tender does anyone know or will the club just walk away ?

    The site overview mentions the following.

    Please note that Crystal Palace Club site will close on 17 December 2018, as our lease comes to an end.

    Maybe if the site needs a large financial input and the landowner won't commit to a long lease it's not worth continuing, or maybe the landowner doesn't want to renew as it maybe prime real estate?

    I don't know the site or area as I prefer to run sites in the countryside but just some thoughts. I'm not privy to inside info!sealed

    The site has been under threat of closure for years. There was a plan to close it prior to the Olympics.

    Land prices must be at a premium, a pity to see it go, not much chance of a replacement.

    I live less than 5 miles from the site and know the park and area very well. I really can't see the site being built on because of where it is, it's historical status and it boarders the park. I would suggest it's purely a financial issue with the land owner. Like most of London, Rent's/Leases are at a ridiculous premium. Hopefully the club can come to some arrangement in the future and retain the site.

    As an example my Caravan storage fees, in Orpington a few miles on from CP, were rising to to £1350 pa this month. I have reduced that to £400 pa by moving to a site near East Grinstead.   Another example is the 2 bedroom terraced house next door to me. the tenants are paying £2400 a month plus bills surprised

    Never mind we can all go to North Yorkshire whether we want to or not, there are plenty of sites therecool

    The land is being re-generated, a section copy from the report by the London Borough of Bromley:

    3.4. During the development of the Regeneration Plan a previously unappreciated urgency to deliver the park’s regeneration now has come to light. The 2007 Masterplan identified enabling sites to fund park regeneration works, which have outline planning permission.
    The most valuable of the housing sites, at an estimated £15.44m, is Rockhills where the Caravan Club is currently situated. The Caravan Club’s lease can only be broken every thirty years, and the 31 st December 2018 is the next date that the lease can be broken.

    Good find, thanks, but very sad for the area if it goes through.  We have had a similar thing happen locally, I live about 3-4 minutes walk from the once great Wimbledon Stadium. it was finally closed last year so no more Greyhound and Motorsport events. It's all boarded up at the moment awaiting Galliard Homes to build 600 plus apartments on the land. 

    FWIW  I can't see it going through smoothly and without a fight from the CP locals or other groups.

    Ayr Craigie Gardens is also under threat and has been for a few years which is a shame as it is in a good location close to the town. We visit it many times throughout the year as it is only 35 mins tow from home.

    What a pity Crystal Palace is closing. there are so few city locations for sites, they are brilliant. Please Caravan club find us more sites in places such as London and Bristol, they are so popular.
