Our Bailey Unicorn has been dry stored in a barn over the winter months, this morning we decided to give it a spring clean and were quite horrified to find dry mould dust all over the wood work, does anyone know what may have caused this? (only on the top cupboards not the bottom) we have been caravanning for some time and this is the first time this has happened, any tips to aviod it happening again would be much appreciated, its all clean and sparkling now and we have left the heating on for the remainder of today

Thanks Tony and Suzanne

    Hi

are you sure it was mould ?

reason for asking is mould would usually require a food source, which is very unlikely on laminated cupboards. Did it just wipe off without leaving any staining ?

what else has been stored in the barn could be as simple as someone has been sweeping the floor.

Panic not, as you have discovered it will just wipe off.  I had this a couple of years ago and really had no idea why.  I store my caravan in the open near the sea.  Before putting caravan away for the winter I ensure all surfaces are really clean, all cupboard doors open and ventilation slots not blocked.  About once a month I go and air the caravan for 10 minutes or so  I checked my caravan at the weekend and it was fine and I have not had the problem over the last 2 winters.

Thanks for your message much appreciated, we thought it was nothing to worry about and after speaking to other friends it does seem quite common and in the future we will check the van more often and open everything up at least once a month hopefully to ensure it doesn't happen again

Fowlersmith.  Anytime!  Forgot to say that I also keep my blinds and curtains open.  Don't know if this helps with the stuff but it saves strain on the springs and bleaching the curtains.
