Tracker Problem
Hi. I bought a new van with a tracker fitted in 2013. In 2015 Tracker unit was replaced . I have just tried to pay my annual subscription but Tracker as informed me the unit is fault and it will cost over 240 pound to replace it. To me this seems like a scam. As anyone else come across this problem?

Interesting. Our Tracker came with our 2014 caravan. In 2015 the caravan went back to the factory and when it came back the Tracker company contacted me to say that it was not working. I said that I thought the problem was just that the caravan had been back at the factory and may have been disconnected etc. They insisted it wasn't working and agreed to replace it under warranty. A guy came to fit it in a private car and was going to screw the new unit into the side wall of the caravan until I stopped him! In the end we agreed a fixing point that would not compromise the shell of the caravan. I also contacted the company to ask a) was he their legitimate installer and b) why was he not in a 'works' van. Yes he was one of their fitters and they use unmarked cars so that nobody can tell that a tracker was being fitted. Made (some) sense and have not had any problem since. I will be wary if they contact me again when the subscription expires telling me it is again faulty. I suppose there is no way of telling if it is working or not?!

Would it not be cheaper to fit devices that stopped the Unit being stolen in the first place.?
Or is that not possible ?

Hello NevChap,
You say "I suppose there is no way of telling if it is working or not?!"
The answer to your question is that there may be a way to tell. We can with our Phantom "tracker". I can log on line to our account and look to see the location of our motorhome. If I move it two streets away and look again it should tell me it's new location. Do you have "live tracking"? if so you can tell if it is working,

In the past we have telephoned the tracking centre to ask if our previous tracker was working. My wife suggested if you had had a motorhome you could disconnect the vehicle battery and see if you got a text/phone call from your tracker centre (more difficult to steal a motorhome with the battery disconnected). It is a risk and I definitely wouldn't risk it with a caravan. If yours is an "active" tracker" i.e. if it moves with this feature turned on you are contacted, you could tow it with this feature left on and wait for the centre to contact you.

I've got a 'passive' Tracker in mine. Trouble is I won't know if it is actually working until I need it and then it could be too late to discover it has a fault.

Just had my Tracker Network renewal invitation through and discovered they are asking £99 instead of the £60 they charged last year!
Had to be a mistake, surely! Nope....was told they increased their price last year. What a whopping 60.6%?
Told them to cancel.
As already pointed out, it is a pretty poor product anyway as you can't be sure it works.

Just got my renewal notice from Tracker for my 2014 Unicorn 2, a whopping £129 per year........first renewal they wanted £89 or £199 for three years, so opted for the latter deal at the time in 2015. But think the increase for 2018 is far too much. A jump of almost 50% in 3 years.
Time to reconsider the value of a tracker as I'm not sure I want a stolen van back anyhow. We keep very little personal effects in the van that can't be replaced out of normal expenditure and feel the £72 discount from C&MC (due in the next month) for having the tracker fitted, just aids them rather than me.
