Your favourite beach and why?

Outside of the UK I love Mikro beach on the Pellion Peninsula in Greece, where we spent my 'special' birthday - and where out hotel was directly on to the beach. There were three tavernas - one either end of the beach (one can be seen in this view) and another next to our hotel, food was cheap, fresh and fantastic, and we spent an idyllic week there just relaxing! Wonderful.

Any beach I can take the dog to.

The beaches in the far north west of Scotland. The weather may be variable but the beaches are amazing, and you often are the only ones on them.

I'm picturing the 1953 VW Beetle driving down the beach - that must have been quite a sight!
Another one of my favourite holiday memories was St Ives. Such a beautiful place and we had a very happy family holiday there - I always remember my nan buying me a bright yellow baseball cap which I loved. When the people we love are no longer with us it's so wonderful to have those cherished memories of happy times shared together and what a lovely way to honour your parents memory and scatter their ashes at a place they loved so much.

I would agree. I think this is the beach you mean. However, all those on that bit of coast are nice.

Rhosilli bay, Gower Peninsula.
Nice walk from the car park over the top and back along the beach then out to Worms Head.

As a young child, on holiday with parents and staying at Godrevy Caravan Park long before the Club took it over, we used to walk over the sand dunes to Gwithian Sands which was lovely but my favourite beach had to be Porthcurno. I just loved the cove and the fact that the water was so clear and blue.
In later life, having had opportunities to travel further afield, I found peace walking along the white sandy beach at Hillary's in Australia.
Bondi Beach was somewhere I had to go to but the beach area itself I found very crowded.
Picture is of Porthcurno.

Yes to all these, and for just such reasons, though in our case the family holidays were at Runswick Bay just up the coast from Sandsend, when it still had some of the old locals fishing there. It's not a perfect beach, but the holidays were superb.
Northumberland is wonderful.I'd add Sango Sands on the Scottish N Coast, just E of Cape Wrath.

I think generally, we are spoiled for choice up here.
However, Luskentyre on Harris ( Outer Hebrides) is a very special place. Even when the sun doesn't shine it's worth the effort and is almost always nearly deserted !

All but impossible to answer, too many beaches with different memories from Yorkshire to Lincolnshire to Dorset to North Wales to Northumberland to just about all of Scotland’s coastline and in particular Wester Ross. The beach at Gairloch golf course has been walked with all my dogs at one time or another so I will plump for that.

When OH and I were first "together" we found a wonderful quiet sandy cove which needed a scramble to get down to on the IOW it was great no problems "skinny dipping" it has now been upgraded with wooden flights of steps to the beach, installed by the National Trust so is now busy(spoilsports)

Jasons Bay in Malaysia. Nannyland in Jamaica. Both off the beaten track.
All time favourite is in Gaza but not possible to get to anymore. Many years ago, would finish work in the Negev Desert, get the horses in the horse box, tow to the beach and ride into the sunset.

From my childhood my favourite beach is Harlech. My grandmother lived there & we would spend the 6 week summer holidays each year. This was in the very early 60's when there was no tourists in Harlech so we would usually have the beach to ourselves. We would go to the beach each day and not come home to tea time. On our walk back to our grans we would call off at the castle which is those days was open at all times without a pay barrier & we'd have a game of cowboys and Indians running around the castle. My father was a fireman on the steam locos so he would get free rail travel to Harlech & lodgings with Gran was also free. Gran died in 1969 & the house was sold for a pittance, but such great memories.
My 2nd favourite is the beach at Padstow but this does get overrun with tourists (like us).
