Half price REDEX at Tesco in February 2018
£2 for 250ml during February. That’s enough for two tanks of diesel. But is Redex any good? I’ve bought a few bottles and will give it a go for the next 3,000 miles. It will certainly be a lot cheaper than buying BP Ultimate or Shell V power.

The debate about fuel additives and premium petrols runs relentlessly on most motoring forums, with many people quoting this experiment by Fifth Gear.......

Every now & again you can pick it up dirt cheap in Asda & Tesco, I bought a job lot last time it was on offer......
I don't bother with it in our main car or the M/H cos they are both new, but I run my older BMW only on Shell V Power plus added Redex because it has a notoriously fussy fuel injection system.
It seems to run better, but that's probably the placebo effect......
It does a very low mileage so the cost is irrelevant to me...

Hmmm.................

As you say, it often does, but usually because they want to sell you their own, like BMW for instance.....

Who knows, but I don't think the answer is clear cut either way....
Edit, sorry, cant get the link to work, will have another go....

I think several manufacturers will happily sell a fuel additive over their parts counter or when you take a car in for servicing, but goodness knows whether it does any good.....

Redex is an Upper Cylinder Lubricant, not a go-faster/octane boosting fuel additive. It's original purpose was to improve lubrication of the cylinder wall and valve stems and promote complete combustion in carburettor fed engines. In the 50's 'Pool' petrol was also dirty burning so by promoting more complete combustion the combustion chambers stayed cleaner. Redex was 1d (one old penny) a shot (one shot per gallon) back in the day. I remember the 50's and early 60's when it was a frequent weekend job for my Dad to 'do a decoke' every 3 or 4 thousand miles to our 1936 Morris 8 and then our 1954 Morris Minor. The manufacturer's service recommendations for my current 2 yr old car requires just a basic small service only every 20,000 miles. Provided it has been fed clean oil and fuel no-one ever needs to decoke today's modern cars. Redex is entirely unnecessary in today's modern engines using Hi-Tec oils, superior lubrication control and injector fuelling.

I first learned of adding 2 stroke oil to my diesel tank from the Kia Sorento and Hilux Owners forum and read up on the FL2 forum. ( Freelander ) I added half of a 500ml bottle of Carlube 2t per tank on my first Hilux ( which did 100,000 miles ) and now I add it to my new Hilux. I found that it really did quieten the injector rattle on my MK6 and seemed to make the engine run smoother, I'd say anything that makes an engine runs smoother will prolong it's life.
One life, live it, don't waste it at the side of the road repairing Land Rovers. !!! ( Hilux Owners Club ).

The OP did say two tanks of diesel, so we are not talking about the petrol engine upper cylinder lubricant Redex but I suspect one or other of their diesel combustion improvers?
Here comes the question, is it for a DPF diesel or pre DPF diesel? They do a special one for DPF engines. Like two stroke oil I for one would not be wanting to put any non approved product into one with a DPF . The often suggested mineral two stroke oil whilst it might stabilise combustion can't but increase the ash build up in the DPF, the inevitable life limiter of these rather expensive devices.

....giving up pointless arguments for lent!

indeed, it does nothing but...."increase the ash build up in the DPF, the inevitable life limiter of these rather expensive devices"

I'm another diesel driver that uses 250ml of low ash 2 stroke in a full tank of fuel .
I picked the tip up off another forum & gave it a try ......no problems & the engine runs smooth & quiet another bonus is the fuel pump gets added lubrication .
