Unfortunately, it's not as simple as that, Kj. When there's a divorce, the court decides who gets custody of the children. So you don't get a choice and neither do the grandparents get access unless the parent who has custody permits it.

I'm not in a financial position to be able to fund future care home costs, SteveL. I live hand to mouth, one day at a time! I don't have in excess of half a million pounds in the bank to buy a house, nor could I afford a mortgage of that size on my existing income, so I don't buy one.

As long you can keep up the payments, it's not a problem, Tammygirl. After all, I'm getting interest free credit which means I'm being lent the money for free!

Not everyone has managed it, cariadon. Some posters that I used to see on the old forum have disappeared altogether!

My wife's visa solicitor advised us that the visa rules require there to be a tenancy agreement so that the Home Office have an address where she can be contacted, receive documents etc. If and when a visa is granted, the Home Office will need an address at which she can receive her passport after they have finished their work on it.

Those subjects are all relevant to 'What are you up to' so why unnecessarily start a new thread?

I make my family with people I can actually be with and meet or at least communicate with.

My ex-family are not such people. My son allowed his mind to be poisoned against me by his mother who had custody of him after the marriage broke up. In such circumstances, I cannot and will not have anything to do with him or any family relation associated with him.

My eldest brother has a successful business and fortunately is able to help me by sending me £325 per month in financial gifts to me. So we are grateful to him for this. My other brother took sides and in order to curry favour with my ex-wife, decided 11 years ago that he, his wife, children and grandchildren no longer wanted contact with me or anyone associated with me. Family events such as weddings, funerals etc. happen and we are not kept informed or invited to attend. So my present wife and I do not want to have anything to do with such a bad and unhappy family situation.

When we were about to get married, we invited them all to our wedding and none of them came. We tried visiting them and his wife answered tge door and told us in no uncertain terms that we were not welcome and shut the door in our faces. My wife said to me thatshe has never met anyone so rude in her life! Nevertheless, we both tried with them through correspondence by emails, letters etc. but these were all returned to us as unwanted mail.

There is no point in looking upon people who behave like that as family. Is there? Good luck to Goldie in her happiness with her own family but I hope she can understand that in life, not everyone's family situation is a happy one.

TaffyY. You say my family situation is sad but your family situation is a happy one. If that is so, then you are very lucky. There's no way that I can get that kind of luck in my life, so I just make the best of what is possible! For me, there's more chance of winning the lottery than getting a happy family situation!

What scrolling, Huskydog? Was it something I said? Anyhow, at least you're awake, everybody else on here seems to be asleep which makes me feel I'm talking to myself! It is, after all past 8 a.m. Unless they all had a late night, you would have thought that they would have made an appearance on here by now!

Blue sky, drying up and sun coming up. Hopefully we will be able to get out and about today, yesterday was so wet, dull and dismal we decided not to bother and I spent some time watching the Olympics. That looked fun for the spectators of the ski jumping -10C and a brisk wind blowing, brrrr!!

Watched Kubrick's 2001 a Space Odyssey yesterday evening. An amazing film. Hard to believe I first watched it 50 years ago. Others should really take note of the silent space scenes, rather than add sound to a vacuum. The quality of the special effects is superb and not a computer graphic in sight. Also avoids the endless pages of operatives on the credits, of course.

    I appreciate your situation M.

However, to actively encourage the situation as you are doing on this thread.

If you downsize, the new property will have less value than the old one. So where is the win situation in that? Far better to get rid of it all and the bills to go with it and enjoy your retirement with the freedom of the road! There are club sites open all the year round, so there'll always be a place to stay and a welcome from the warden!

From the nature of of your posts, some might say you are even revelling in the fact others will be picking up your tab.🤔

What do you think that a Solicitor's office might charge to receive regular mail? Also most solicitor's offices are located such that parking is neither easy or free

I would be more concerned that the arrangement at the moment could be interpreted by the immigration service as an attempt to deceive them and impact on his Wife's application  That is of course if MM hasn't informed them that they actually live in the caravan all the time.

It may happen that way, cariadon. It may be that when completed all the paperwork will go to the solicitor who will then pass it on to us. However, they still needed a tenancy agreement to comply with the visa application rules.

My wife spoke to the solicitor a few days ago to enquire on the progress and got the reply that it was still under consideration by the Home Office.

That's true, having made many visits lately I was glad of being able to take the Yaris rather than the XTrail. It was free, but certainly not easy.☹️ Sardines get more room.

I hope it all works out for you and your Wife.

FWIW, I understand your predicament with your close family. I have experienced something similar when my Mother took a dislike to the Woman I choose to marry. My parents didn't attend our wedding, but I leave the story at that. My Mother is still alive and lives about 5 miles from me but I haven't seen her for about 6 or 7 years now.

Me and Patricia (My Wife) will have been married for 38 years this May and are still very much in Love. So Mum didn't know best in this case.

    Families????????

The visa solicitor advised us that this case is very strong and it's highly likely that the visa will be granted but it may take some time because it's not straightforward. Whatever the result, I doubt discussing it on here woukd make any difference to the outcome.

Thanks Milodog. I don't know why everyone else on here is so touchy about this but we meet other people on sites in our travels that have family problems too. Families are not easy!

There's a multi-storey car park near the solicitors office here in Brighton with a 6 ft. height limit. It costs £5 per hour and we have to use the Smart car as the Shogun is too tall!
