Best Touring Directions and Advice to Tenby

Being new to caravan towing, I'm hoping that an experienced club member might be able to provide me with a suitable route to Tenby (Wales) from the North East (M/boro) during the August school holidays and where is the best place to refuel. I'm tempted to stick to the motorways but its a long way and route finder tends to take me through the center of wales which may be okay if I didn't have a caravan to tow.

Look forward to your comments

regards from Denis Bradbury

Hi DB, I will be towing down to Tenby myself in July.

My chosen route from Lancashire will be, M56 to Chester, onto A55, then take the A483 past Wrexham and Oswestry, keep on the A483 all the way to the A40 then onto the A477.

This is my preferred route as the M5 can be very busy in July and August and it's a longer distance.

It's all a matter of choice though.

    Good luck.smile

Hi Denis - please don’t worry about towing through Wales, the roads are excellent and it’s very beautiful. For many years we have regularly towed from Somerset to Snowdonia and always look forward to the journey. Happy caravanning!

Not sure of your personal circumstances,  Denis,  are  you  a  parent  of  school-age  child(ren)  or  even  a  teacher??

If  not  then  take  the  advice  about  driving  thro'  Wales  and  treat  it  as  part  of  the  holiday  i.e.  not  too  fast,  so  you  can  enjoy  the  beautiful  countryside.

If  you  are  'trapped'  so  to  speak  with  the  younger  caravanners  then  the  same  could  apply  but  with  plenty  of  map  reading  before  hand  to get  them  involved.

If  you  are  really  pushed  for  time  I'd  give  you  the  following  advice  ==>  if  I  were  you  I'd  never  start  from  There  winkcool!!

( Got  that  many  times  myself  innocent !  )
