Sites & dates not to be missed.
Sorry, probably been asked a thousand times already ! We have just returned to caravan club and to be honest we are thinking ( for personal reasons ) it may be our last year of owning a van sadly.
We want to make sure if we can , that we dont miss any little gems of sites and dates with special events on in the areas. I first joined caravan club as i was running london marathon and crystal palace was the cheapest accommodation i could find !
I guess my question is , whats your favourite sites and special activities with dates that need to be seen if we can book in :-/ ?
Though I appreciate they may be booked already.
Thanks :-)

I suspect you will get very cautious replies, if any, to this question.
If there is a popular event with a Club site nearby then it will get booked up, probably on frenzy day. Things like the Southport Air Show, Henley Regatta, Chatsworth Fair etc.
Given how difficult it would be to get a booking, people will be reluctant to help you get in front of them in the queue, unless they have already booked....
Probably better to write your own list of what you are interested in seeing or doing and then see if there are still vacancies on the nearest club site.....

I did think that :-) . As i was writing it , i was thinking exactly the same as you . :-) . Thank you for your reply anyway . I appreciate it. :-)

It depends on what sort of events you like? If you don't mind being away late in the year during December the Longleat site is very handy for the Longleat Light Show which is well worth a visit. Likewise Chatsworth for the Christmas Market and the House decorations. AS to ease of getting a booking it will depend on whether you can go during the week or are you tied to weekends which are a bit more difficult.

A couple of years ago we booked into the Incleboro Fields site in Norfolk and found ourselves amongst the 1940s weekend that takes place over that way (Sheringham) every September. The site and the wardens looked quite different for a couple of days.

"Get it cleaned up. I want to be able to see my face in that pitch you 'orrible little caravanner!"

Or come to the British Fireworks Championships at Plymouth, 8 and 9 August 2018.

that's why they removed mops - they didn't like it up'em

You can probably see them from Plymouth Sound club site but book early.

There is also a rally in the field next to Plymouth Sound in Down Thomas, which mentions the fireworks display. Can't remember which centre, but you might find it by putting in the month for the search. (Just tried the search but it's still not working properly.)

I've mentioned it before on a different thread but Liverpool have some of the Chinese Terracotta Army on display this year. See their website. As it's not just for one day you should be able to find a pitch on the Wirral Club site to suit your own dates and catch the train from West Kirby station, nearby. They also have the return, in July, of the Tall Ships.

WN. Would love to see both of those things.
The August Balloon Fiesta in Bristol is worth seeing, find a rally nearby for the best views.

I have a feeling the rally in the field next door is camping and caravanning club

The Terracotta army was, in part, seen being reassembled on BBC North West t'other night and even some of the Chinese Residents of Liverpool were mightily impressed WN . Like Manchester Liverpool also has a large and very proud Chinese population
The Tall Ships are also supposed to be in SUNDERLAND 11th --> 14th July ( www.sailtraininginternational.org/events )

Now, not being sure what Gizacuppatea's tastes are, might I be permitted to suggest the purchase of March edition of Vintage Spirit magazine 'cos it contains an "Events Guide" of 80 pages covering lots of gathering & events from Shetland to Cornwall via Kent !
{ To defend myself --> Buses, Trains, Model engineering, Classic Cars & Motorbikes Steam powered water pumping stations, narrow boats etc etc are all included Not just the Great Dorset Steam Fair with ,it's hoped, 500 full size traction engines }

Hi
Just a couple from me. If you're down Cornwall way there's a lot the popular towns that hold food festivals that are a good experience. St.Ives has their's in September. Godrevy Park club site is good for that or try Polmanter or Ayr holiday park, I use Ayr on my rest days it's expensive but has a great view, they're both walking distance. Also in September if you're into music the Looe music festival is a must. A really vibrant weekend for all the family. Try Looe club site for that or Tregoad (which is next door). There's a bus service put on. I'm going
Hope this helps if you're down my way. JK

Also in the southwest don't forget the May celebrations, The Furry Dance in Helston, The 'obby 'oss in Padstow and Minehead. Also there's Bolster Day in St Agnes (named after the giant Bolster, you can see his footprint in a rock on the coast path on the way down to Chapel Porth beach...)
The Devon & Cornwall Centre run a good rally for the Helston celebrations.

Yes, forgot those, also pirates day in Penzance. This year only we also have the Man Engine returning. I'll be at Heartlands at Camborne on 1st April. Google man engine and you'll see a true engineering feat and a true piece of heritage remembrance.
I'm still in holiday mode at present, far too much vino tinto the last 2 weeks before we head back to site, I'll miss this sun!
Jk
