Booking a Specific Pitch

I don't think I am suggesting there is an issue, just that some sort of tiering already exists, as it does in most walks of life. The awning / non awning, grass / hardstanding can't really be described as such if there is free choice from available pitches.
I suppose my main point was that although individual pitch booking is probably not desirable for many reasons, creating an us and them society is not in my opinion one of them.

Being the cynical old git that I am, my worry would be that if the club did take this route and it was successful , come a future frenzy day I could see them auctioning off "sunny"pitches. That truly would become a tiered membership. Have money , have the best pitch.

We aren't too worried about about booking a specific pitch too much but don't like being too close to toilet block or entrance gate. We are same as Goldie. If visiting our grandchildren we're often on same site for 10 or more days. Nearly 3 weeks in Cornwall a while ago. OH especially dislikes too much moving around.

Simplicity of systems always tend to meet the needs of the majority. If you start to be able to book individual pitches you will inevitably end up with unsold pitches and possible inconvenience to quite a few members. Imagine arriving on site for a week, having not booked a specific pitch, and being told that your only choice would be three days on pitch 9 and four days on pitch 36 meaning you would have to move half way through your holiday. You would be pleased as punch!!!! I tried to book a non Club site in Norfolk for four days and was told I could only have a hardstanding pitch for two nights and then have to move to a grass one for the second two nights. Went elsewhere instead! Many people could get what they want by just adjusting their arrival day. Sunday is probably the best day as you get the maximum emptying out of the site because of weekenders. Not so practical for working members but easy enough for those that are retired?

We've sort of suffered this in reverse. We booked a fully serviced pitch for two weeks at Hillhead one summer ( no we haven't won the lottery - it was just before schools broke up ) & when we arrived there was a choice of just one, where we could only fit side on, with the awning almost touching the access road ! Had we have been allocated that pitch before we booked, I would have said no thank you & gone for a non serviced pitch instead. As we normally arrive for a weeks holiday on a saturday, when using a standard pitch, we have found one, but before erecting the awning, gone to the site office & asked which pitches are likely to be leaving on the sunday, we then have a walk round to see where they are & if better than where we are, we simply move the next day.

I would not think that pitch prices would be any different. They might even not go up as much. The charge for booking a specific pitch would be on top of the normal pitch fee. If you were happy to select from those available, you would not pay it.

Nightmare .
Member 1 (or non member) pre books pitch 1 mid August in the sun for Friday Saturday and Sunday .
Member 2 arrives and the warden has to look at his booking and work out how long he has booked for and then tell him/her which pitches are available for the time he is staying (remembering that you generally have free choice of available pitches . and then tell him/her that although he may be able to extend his/her stay it might not be on that pitch .
Member 3 pre books pitch 1 the following Fri Sat Sun
before long pitch 1 ,best pitch on site is booked all weekends and weekdays empty unless warden allocates it to short stay members ,again no free choice .
The system as is works quite well . arrive and choose ,if its not what you fancied pick another pitch later .

You must had the same pitch as we had in 2017....(only one available when we arrived) ...Another 'van arriving the next day couldn't get on the pitch (by the steps to bottom section)..just vacated that morning by a 5m 'van. He had a session with the Warden and left site. The other anomaly of not being able to book a specific pitch (based on unit size) is that for example, the next pitch to the one we were on...was huge but only had a very, very small camper van.....and he is perfectly entitled.
Unless someone tells me different we found the site unkempt, full of non-members flagrantly disregarding club rules, some very small service pitches (albeit the regional manager assured me this would be changing....yes I did lodge a complaint to EG)....dogs running wild off lead, nearly ran over one which came out the hedge on the down hill roadway (emergency stop)...Lady by the motorhome apologised and subsequently scolded the dog !!!!

I’m not happy with any booking a pitch proposal we’re all paid up members of the CAMH and as such we should all expect equal opportunities to pitch on site. Not be relegated to the 75%, or whatever, less desired locations. We already have a situation where insomniacs set out to arrive before 12 to swoop onto the best of available pitches, then complain loudly when a late departee vacates an even better one. For goodness sake, can’t we join polite society and not indulge in a money buys anything culture. Whatever happened to the concept of a club for like minded people who enjoy the outdoors?

After all the years I've been caravanning I've yet to find out exactly what an "ideal" pitch is. By and large they all look pretty much the same to my untutored eye.
