Magazine article: The West Midlands

In this month's article Lee Davey visits the West Midlands staying at 7 sites and enjoying many of the attractions in the area. Have you any recommendations of  things to do if visiting the West Midlands or have you stayed at any of the sites in the article?

    I was brought up in Warwickshire and I have to remind myself what has been lost to the name West Midlands. But I can think of two good cities which have lots to offer, Birmingham and Coventry. My favourites in Birmingham are the two museums, the science museum and the Birmingham museum and art gallery. Plus a walk around the revamped city canal area and the jewellery quarter.

    In Coventry I'd go for the area around the old and new cathedrals, there are still some medieval buildings in Cov. and it's worth searching them out. It also has the Herbert Art Gallery and museum nearby, plenty to see in there.

    Due to being a city famous for car production it has a good transport museum too.

    So Brum and Cov. two good place to visit. smile

    I think that the article plays fast and loose with the concept of where the West Midlands is! Shropshire was not in the West Midlands when I lived in Birmingham.

    My post looks completely out of context, which it is but there is West Midlands as a county and West Midlands as an area. The "area" is large and I think most people think of Shropshire and Herefordshire as separate counties, the title "West Midlands" is too vague and covers other counties too.

    Whilst I agree with Simon, we did stay at the CL, The Old Orchard, in 2016, and drove to the NEC for the autumn show. 

    Lovely CL by the way, well worth a stay.

    We stayed here last April, lovely site with stunning views - even walked to the local pub for a drink as advertised!   

    We also visited the Black Country Museum which was great and can also recommend Worcester and Droitwich Spa (make sure you go to the Catholic Church to see the mosaics - they are stunning http://www.sacredheartdroitwich.org.uk/the-church/mosaics/)

    Many of the sites in the magazine feature the west of the West Midlands.  Dont forget the east area of the West Midlands.  You could visit Twycross Zoo (on the West Midlands/East Midlands border.  Then for those who are more energetic Tamworth Snowdome or even Drayton Manor.  There is Cannock Chase or even a visit to Polesworth Abbey.  Although I have never stayed there (as it's only 3 miles down the road), several have spoken very highly of the Atherstone Stables (a good CL).  I know one member of CT stays there when visiting the NEC.  Of course there is Chapel Lane CAMC site too - I could be wrong, but I don't think this is mentioned in the magazine- and High Onn CAMC site, towards Stafford
