side wall cracking

22 month old caravan and both tyres have side wall cracking

it says change tyres every 5 yrs from first inflation which should have been feb 2016

thats when the elec and gas safety test certificate was issued for my caravan during building

wheels where taken off van and stored over winter in my brick garage

i think they should be covered under warranty as the cannot be fit for purpose if they develop 

defects at such a young age

whats do you think

    Sounds premature, tyres have a date code.

    I am not sure what you mean when you say first inflation should have been Feb 2016 !  Irrespective of when the caravan was built and probably kept in storage for some time.

    As suggested above the important date is when the tyres were made and the DOT code on the tyre wall will give you that date. 

    Is the Load Rating of the tyres suitable for the caravan's MTPLM ?

    Other than that, grossly under inflated tyres would generate excessive heat and reduce tyre life

    the load rate should be ok as it was a brand new caravan easter 2016

    the wheels and tyres where on the van when collected

    from the main dealer knowepark caravans in livingston

    in the books that come with a new van they say the first inflation of the van tyres is the same as the date that the chassis is assembled and starts going down the assembly line

    Are these deep cracks in the rubber or just surface crazing?

    the dealer has raised a warranty claim on my behalf 

    but says it might be refused.

    In which case you claim off the dealer. He sold you the van and is responsible. It’s of no concern to you what happens between manufacturer and dealer. Go for it!

    Quote the Consumer Protection Act and use the clubs legal helpline if you need to.

    Agree with others.  Dealer responsible.  Ask them, nicely of course,  to replace the tyres with new ones and get them to show you the manufacturing date marked on the new tyres. eg 0418 = 4th week of 2018.  If they won't, remind them of the Consumer Protection Act.  There are lots of draft letters to be found on the net.
