The next announcement???
Have I missed something on here? I'm reading on caravantalk that there is some big announcement due from the club. Is this all waffle or is there something in it?

It’s all a bit silly over there and nothing I saw to substantiate the claim. It’s just someone heard rumours.
We do know that the booking system is being looked at but that hardly constitutes a major change.

I actually find it all a bit unfriendly, not sure if it's just me.

It’s not just you.
If you’ve experienced a truly friendly forum (and I don't mean this one!) the difference stands out a mile.

I looked at the discussion as well and wondered if someone was just flying a kite.
Like TW the booking system is the only thing that I can think of but tend to agree that unless there are some unpredicted changes like taking deposits I can't see that it will be that exciting?

What about being able to book a H/S pitch, at an extra fee of course, David?

Even something unpredicted is unlikely to be exciting, David.

Haha, I don't think this place is too bad. I've asked a couple of questions the last couple of days and they have gone unanswered, which is not something I've seen happen before on a forum.

This place can be bad at times but you should have seen it a few years ago!

No, we'll be the last to know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I do believe the club run a trial on some sites ,not so long ago, allowing booking of hardstanding pitches . Its a nice thought but in practice unlikely to work well .

They declared the trial not to be a success and stated that members were confused by it. Insulting or what?

Why would you say that.....
I've just made several bookings with CCC and selected a H/S pitch....
Ditto with some commercial sites.....
The only reason the club can't (sorry won't) do it is because they will be left with grass pitches that nobody will pre-book.
It's about money, nothing else......

I think it was a flawed trial because they tried it on a few sites and only for hardstanding pitches. This allowed arguments and confusion to occur as people arrived at a campsite and only then realised they did not have a free choice of available pitches. If you are going to be able to book a pitch surface you must do it for all types of pitch and and all sites so there is no room for confusion.

I really cannot understand how anyone could be confused by the trial, if you wanted to book any of the 4 sites involved, you HAD to choose your pitch type.
The fact it was a limited trial was made very clear when booking.
Your booking confirmation made it clear what you had booked.
When you arrived the wardens confirmed the type of pitch you had booked.
What I can believe is that some members might have forgotten that they had to book a specific surface if was a while since they booked.
Always good to refer to your booking details if your memory is bad!
Anyone arriving on spec might be surprised that they did not have a free choice of HS or grass, but then not many people do just arrive on spec.
And being surprised is not the same as being confused.

There is always a risk you may not be able to extend a stay anyway, particularly at busy periods.
If all HSs are booked, you might have the option of moving to a grass pitch, if this was unacceptable it would be no different to no pitches being available.
Booking a specific pitch is not something I think would work on Club sites as there is no restriction on length of booking so could mean having to move pitch as you say JVB.

And not having a minimum no. of nights is a good thing in my opinion. It stands the club out from many of its competitors and is an asset to many of us 'tourers'. Afterall the club is a network of sites, we may not spend consecutive nights on one specific site but many of us spend consecutive nights on the network sites.

Not one of the big announcements has been exciting. The club and I do not share the same definition of exciting.
My guess is that it's got something to do with tents/pods/yurts going by the hard sell and frequency of featuring in the magazine

Hi everyone,
There was no one 'big' announcement as such however the show is where we like to update members about new products and services such as our new site, Cayton Village Club Site and the new online Club Shop. I hope this clears up any confusion.

Following on from my previous post I got a very bemused look from a member of staff today at the NEC when I asked if there had been any major announcement before I arrived. Only just seen Rowena's post so it was hardly surprising!!!!
