On the subject of letters, I note the Star letter is written by a gentleman who is now after many years of caravanning is now having to sadly give up. He has extensively toured the British Isles and Ireland.

How inappropriate then and seemingly insensitive to send him on his retirement the Star prize of three caravan touring books Europe, Spain Portugal and France. Surely there should be an alternative in situations like this.

I actually like the diversity on sites. It’s great to walk round and look at big motorhomes, small camper vans, large, small and vintage caravans.  People with dogs cats and parrots. I like to nosey and see what kit everyone has. Could I do something differently and learn from others. For me this is what makes it interesting.

oh, and I’ll talk to everyone and anyone. I’ve met some interesting people and always learned something.

Agreed, but it only 'ups the anti' for those who wish to perceive it as such and then rise to the bait. The rest of us will accept that all views are just personal opinions. No real rights or wrongs, just different standpoints I guess whether we agree or not.

It’s my guess that the people who edit the letters page probably have no idea what goes on in the club, on sites or anywhere else connected with vanning.

I think the ones left looking childish, selfish and pompous are the letter writers. Job done, we can ignore them.

I doubt that I have opened as many as 10 mags in as many years. Definitely less. When I did open them prior to that the letters pages were the best bit.

AS an aside did anyone notice the invitation to undertake a survey on what you think of the magazine? See here https://www.surveygizmo.eu/s3/90061470/Feb-2018-Club-Mag

I opted out of the mag a year ago to have more time to enjoy my Wickes catalogue.

A very flawed questionnaire as it assumes that the member responding spends at least an hour reading each issue rather than consigning it to recycling unread.

Someone mentioned that the Letters page used to be the 'best' part of the Magazine - a pity a few more Members don't have the nowse to send letters for publication and bring back a more upbeat feel to the Magazine our monies help to fund.

Yes, I have sent letters for publication some while back but they weren't considered apt apparently - but that doesn't stop me trying again at a later date.

A bit less moaning and a bit more input of the Forum users might, just might, make everyone a touch more happy with the contents of the Magazine.

I see it like this, the magazine does not make money from our comments/letters so the more adverts  the richer the club becomes but will not reduce the cost of membership. its getting more like the yellow pages each month.

While consuming the wonderful home made soup my beloved has served for lunch I was reading (I know, not very sociable) the latest MMM magazine.

Around 35 letters - variable length and quality (I had a letter published last month) - on diverse subjects were enjoyed during my meal but I note only 9 letters in the newest C&MC magazine.

Perhaps you are writing letters and emails to the Club and the Staff may consider them not appropriate for publication as they are negative in tone and not constructive for the Clubs aims.

Most people on these forums have a positive opinion on Caravan and Motorhome issues but perhaps don't like to air them in print - c'mon everybody, lets see your views in print and enhance our Magazine.

Thanks. I've given a full response.

I used to read the mag pretty thoroughly but the last few have remained virtually unread. Not enough variety any more - just hard sell of club sites, constant use of the phrase 'great outdoors' and even the reviews have gone downhill from the rather thin content of yesteryear

Same for me Jay. We used to enjoy letters page, some hilarious stuff, some nice stuff. But it's a chore wading through all the advertising dross nowadays.

    Just done survey.

Can't say many of my responses were positive.

Before the internet, the letters page was an absolute hoot, folks inventing all sorts of things to make touring easier. I think the letters about unrolling toilet rolls while travelling where the funniest, the debate was well worthy of the best of CT........except the responses were a tad slower! laughing

Mine has arrived and it took me all of 5 mins to read.

I had a real feeling of deja-vu in relation to the article on Ludlow, noted the further decline in CL's again this month, laughed at the £100,000 outfit on test and was amazed at the amount of adverts contained within, as well as the additional "waste paper" concealed in the polythene wrapper.

Whatever happened to 'What's his name" who wrote amusing stories about caravanning and his travels? Along with the Letters section, at least I used to get some entertainment every month. cool

All filed under "B" and done the survey.

Have to confess, when survey asked for improvements, I did recommend less glossy paper as it's easier to light the stove!laughing
