Can anyone update on Southport pitches?

Last summer there were some negative comments made regarding changes made to the access routes to the toilet blocks in the newer part of the site. These changes made a couple of the serviced pitches more of a through road than a pitch. I did contact the Club ( twice) but other than an automated reply in one instance and a response from a real person in the second saying my email would be passed onto the regional manager who would get back to me, heard nothing. I think it was Ros on here who said the access routes would be reviewed later in the year (2017).

Anyone who was there over the Christmas/ New Year period able to give any update on the path between these two pitches? The pitch numbers involved were 108 & 109.

We plan on returning in the summer and although our first preference would be a serviced pitch I wouldn’t like to be stuck on either of those two pitches if the layout was unchanged.

Thanks in advance.

On, or about, 27th December my good lady visited this toilet block - the other being closed for cleaning. She told me that using that access there were two options. Either walk on muddy wet grass or on the adjacent pitch.

Thanks EasyT. I was sure I had read a post from you a while back saying you were visiting Southport over Christmas and thought I might get a response from you. I guess that means that the toilet block access between the two pitches was still in use at that time. Hope they review this before the summer and either change it or take those pitches out of use. Can’t see them taking the pitches out of use though.

I’ve booked a service pitch but if I arrive and those are the only pitches available then I will be asking to change to a standard pitch.

    Thanks for the quick response.

We are booked on a serviced pitch in May...If as you say those two pitches remain unchanged...and no other SP available can you change to a standard pitch on the day..?

And thanks for the 'heads up' re pitches 108-109.

As long as there are unbooked pitches available for the duration of your stay, I would expect you would be able to change.

    Good afternoon artel,

Thank you for getting in touch.

I have requested an update on the access at Southport, and will post back very soon.

    With kind regards.

    Kimberley.

I was at Southport a couple of weeks ago and nothing appeared to have changed with regard to the access path between the two serviced pitches but the whole of the new part had been closed off.

I certainly do not want to be on either of those two pitches.....and will cancel if no change to the access is being carried out. I do get the feeling that nothing will change....given that the pathway has already been planned and put in place. Need a response from staff urgently so alternative booking can be made....

Preferably I would not want either. However, 108 does not look too bad, not for us anyway. It would be the non door side of our van that faced the path up the divide, and it would be easy enough to block off your pitch when the car is there, so folks cannot walk close against the van.

On 109 we would face the path with the door, so not a very appealing set up. I suppose we could go front in, although this can sometimes cause problems connecting to the services.

Idealy they would do away with 109 and put a proper path in that area. An expensive option though.

Which is why I do not think anything will change...i will ring the site direct for an update (if any)...

Would like to know which person is responsible for designing 'our caravan/motorhome experience' on site. These are fully serviced pitches for which we pay a premium....

I'm impressed !!...Just spoke with the site warden who informs me that, during the next week, he will be closing off the pathway between P 108/109, reseeding and amending signage.

Just wondering precisely who made the decision to install it in the first place if a member of site staff can make the decision to close it again; or have they received the directive from HO.

    Good result in any case.

I bet it'll take more than a bit of grass seed to stop the "shortest distance between two points"

If they don't EasyT there's little point in removing the signage and/or reseeding the grass.

If I had to take the offending pitch I'd make sure I parked something to stop folks going through.

The original design was at fault in that it takes a 3 day camel trek to walk to the far end of the shower/amenity block, which was why the short cut was added in the first place.

I've just remembered why I only look at the "Overseas Sites and Touring" section these days. There are no moans and groans in that section, only useful comments, help and information !!

Thanks for that update GTP. I had emailed the Club directly twice last Autumn and had been promised an update twice, never heard a thing, plus Kimberley going to try and find out. Communication doesn’t seem to be the Club’s strongpoint.

would appreciate a further update after your visit in May if possible please. We are booked for June.
