Greenflag versus Mayday
There used to be an advantage belonging to the caravan and motorhome club as membership entitled you to join Mayday who used to have several caravan benefits over Greenflag hence the attraction. I understand that Greenflag no longer have their size restrictions or any other differences so what are the advantages, to a caravanner, of being a CAMC member and joining Mayday ?

This is a big advantage of Mayday.
But. When broke down about 10 years ago on our way to Cornwall only got about 20 Miles. The call handler had no clue about the double journey cover. Actually in the event the fault was easily fixed and we went on our way.
More seriously and recently, last Easter, friends of ours had a clutch failure. There was no mention of double journey so they aborted their holiday. We mentioned the double journey cover, they complained and were compensated, but it doesn’t really make up for the ruined holiday.
Conclusion, it is a big advantage but make sure everyone knows you have it, should the need arise.
Sorry quoted the wrong post I meant to quote JVB66, that is not to say that KJelNN’s contribution isn’t relevant

There was a caravan length limit with Green Flag that isn't part of the Mayday offer, 7m I think.

Having had to use Green-Flag/Mayday can I just say why would you go without there cover, used in the UK attended the car checked fault, asked what time We wanted collection, arrived on time and took us home and then dropped car at garage, we have also broken down twice in France, sent to pick up a hire car, our car taken to repairer, had a call 6 days later to ay car was repaired, paid for parts, drove home. As it was near our holiday end arrangements had been made to recover family and caravan back to UK and the car would follow, thank fully this was not required. I wouldn't travel without Green Flag or Mayday. Even having warranty main dealer warranty on car, the questions come when you say you are towing a twin axle caravan. Don't go without cover.

Having re-read the other posts, Green flag will recover caravan only if that has a fault, regards length ours is 8.1 meter no questions, as long as it is made to EU/Uk spec there should be no issue.,

I am confused now.
Are you saying that the ordinary Green flag cover now includes 'double journey', or that Mayday now doesn't include this. For them to be the same, one or the other must be true.
It is still my understanding that Mayday includes double journey but Mayday does not.

David, In the club mag. this month is an ad. that gives the impression to me that Mayday has the following advantages over other services, listed:
Unlimited call outs
No size, weight or vehicle age restrictions
Dual recovery.
I don’t know if it is the only company that offers all this plus the usual breakdown benefits, I would also be interested if someone has found another competitor cheaper.

Hi Ken
This was the cover I understood was always the case under Mayday, but was confused by Bill's post that the live chat said there was no difference between the cover offered by Green Flag. It was always my understanding that Green flag did not offer duel recovery (also described as double journey) but Mayday did. I wonder if the person on live chat has got it wrong, or of there was a misunderstanding.
It is my understanding that May day provides the best cover for caravanners. I have always found them good.

From the Green Flag website:
"With Green Flag you get all the benefits of our standard breakdown cover for any caravan or trailer you’re towing (up to a weight limit of 3.5 tonnes and size limits of 7 metres long, 3 metres high and 2.55 metres wide.) This way you’re fully covered on any campsite within the UK. We have a massive range of recovery vehicles available so that if we can’t repair your caravan or trailer at the roadside, we can get you, your car and your caravan or trailer moving again in no time."
It then goes on to discuss the additional benefits of their Mayday cover.
The Green Flag caravan length limit is the main reason I changed to Mayday cover because our 'van is longer.

Hi bill,
Sorry for the confusion. As dmiller points out the Green Flag website has information on the MayDay cover.
There are no weight or size restrictions ( with Green Flag it's up to a weight limit of 3.5 tonnes and size limits of 7 metres long, 3 metres high and 2.55 metres wide).
May Day also includes dual recovery - so if you break down, you will still be taken to your holiday destination and home again. Dual Recovery is not available with Roadside Assistance cover level.
Other benefits of MayDay include:
Misfuelling cover – fuel tank drained and enough fuel to get you back on the road again. Misfuel excludes damage to vehicle.
Cover whether you’re towing or not
I hope this helps explain and let me know if you have any further questions.
